Howdy and Happy 2011 Sugar Pie Darlin’s! My oh my! I sure do love the beginning of a New Year!! It’s so refreshing! The slate is scrubbed clean like clothes washed with homemade soap on an old washboard! It’s our chance for a fresh start…new adventures…new opportunities to pursue the things that have been dancing in our heart!
My Planner is from Franklin-Covey.
It’s always like a breath of fresh air after I’ve taken down and put away all of the glittery Christmas goodness. I actually welcome the “plain Jane” look. It’s uncluttered, simple and farm fresh. When my home is clutter-free neat and tidy, I can actually think clearer. To the contrary, when my house is in a jumble I’m faced with a long list of things waiting impatiently for my attention and it’s hard to think of anything else! I so look forward to the moment that I can sit down in a calm and serene atmosphere to take an intentional look at the new year ahead. This is where I think about my goals and dreams and what I’m going to do to achieve them. It’s where I plan for a harvest of goodness in the year to come.
Here are my tips for getting the year off to a fruitful start :
~ Gather: your calendar, a favorite pen, and a notebook.
~ Create a happy thinking spot. This could be at the kitchen table or in a comfy chair or even at your computer. Fix something yummy to drink in a pretty cup (I like to bring yummy-ness and beauty into everything that I do…even down to lighting a votive candle in a jelly jar and sipping from my pink and brown polka-dot cup that I got from Starbucks at half price a few years ago. It doesn’t cost anything to make your everyday moments lovelier.)
~ Add music: something instrumental…classical, bluegrass…or whatever makes you feel perky and happy.
~Pray. In everything I do I want to seek God first. It’s crucial that we pray and ask God for His wisdom and direction. His plans for us are so much better than our own, better than we can even imagine! He created us so He knows us best! I have found that whatever I feel passionate about it’s usually something He has put in my heart to pursue. But to make sure I always pray first. Whatever it is that I decide to invest my time in, I have to be careful that it doesn’t take away from my time with God nor my time taking care of my home and family. For example, I get a lot of requests to post more often on my blog (which I am truly grateful for, thanks sugar darlin’s!). You see, as much as I LOVE writing my blog I just wouldn’t have the time that I need to nurture my family and home if I posted more often. I think it’s mainly due to the fact that my posts are long (they take me a couple days to write) and there are so many images to download (my computer is slow). I could make them shorter but the thing is I have so much to say! What’s a gal to do?;)
“…seek (aim at and strive after), first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right),and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.” Matthew 6:33
~Write: with pen in hand or on the computer, make a list of things you want to strive for physically, spiritually, at home, in your relationships and any other area (such as your blog, creative projects and ideas). Write down your dreams and ideas. It’s the writing of your ideas and dreams that is so important. They are more likely to become a reality if you write them down. If we don’t write an idea down I find that it becomes more of a good intention rather than an attainable goal, and we run the risk of forgetting it altogether (oopsie daisy, that’s happened to me!) When we see our ideas, goals and dreams on paper it gets our creative juices bubbling like a fizzy glass of soda pop. Then more ideas start to bubble up! It’s also important to keep that list visible so you can review it at least once a week. (Remember that old saying “out of sight, out of mind” !)
Writing down our goals and dreams is like planting a seed.
A good farmgirl sits down and plots her field or garden. She draws a map of her land and decides what she wants to harvest at the end of the season. Then in view of that, she buys the seeds needed to meet that goal. It’s good to look at the end result of what you want to accomplish. This will inspire you to do what it takes to get it done. Also, imagine the joy of completing it and the blessing it may bring to others.
What do you want to harvest this year? What ideas do you want to plant and see grow?
~ Maybe you have a book you want to write: Start writing! Commit to 15 to 30 minutes a day, or pick one day a week to devote to writing. Make a date and write it on your calendar/planner. Gather research into a binder and start growing that book. Find related images on the internet or magazines to inspire you and put them in your binder. Get educated; read books on how to write fiction or non-fiction. Search the internet for useful information. The main thing is to get started.
~ Maybe you want to re-decorate a room in your home: gather pictures from the internet or magazines with the look that makes your heart leap. Keep these inspiring images in a notebook. Collect paint chips from Home Depot. Keep your eye out for good deals on home accessories. Think of new uses and placement for things you already have. When the funds become available you’ll be ready!
~ Maybe you’re interested in photography and would like a better camera: even if the funds for a new camera aren’t available now, start doing some research for the kind you want to get. (cameratips.com is a good place to start). Then begin saving your money! You can even start a savings account for just that, so you’re not tempted to spend it on something else. Collect all of the loose coins at the bottom of your handbags, you’d be surprised how much change adds up. If you’re asked what you want for your birthday, request money to go toward a new camera. Little by little it will add up and soon you’ll be capturing moments of beauty with your new camera.
~ Maybe you just want to get your house in order. You want to simplify (that’s on my list!!). Start with one drawer, or one closet. Small achievements will spur you on to do more! Oh how I love the feeling of a freshly organized closet! I go out of my way to peek in a cupboard or closet that I’ve tidied up!
~Maybe you want to raise chickens: this is something that I want to do, but don’t have the funds yet to build a chicken coop. But I can start gathering information and reading up on owning and caring for mama hens. I can even design my chicken house and pick out the kinds of cute chickies that I want to eventually get. I can also start thinking up their darlin’ names too! (Let’s see…Minnie Pearl…Beulah…Bessie Mae…Daisy…Dolly….)
~Roll up your sleeves: take action. Do a little something each day toward your goal or idea.
If a good farmgirl wants a fruitful harvest she’s got to prepare the soil, plant the seed, water it, nurture the sprout, tend the garden, feed the stocks as they grow, remove weeds and pests, and before long she will reap the fruit of her labor. It’s called good old fashioned hard work. If we want something enough then we’ll do what it takes to get it done. We can do it!
Maybe you’ve had a hard year in 2010, well now darlin’, today is a new day, it’s a new year, God’s mercies are new every mornin’ and He is right at your side to help you get back on that horse! Don’t give up, and don’t park your pony! Instead Sugar, brush yourself off, pull yourself up by your AdOrAbLe cowgirl bootstraps! Farmgirl up! Life is short, you’ve got a purpose to fulfil, seeds to plant and people to bless! Now Giddy-up!
Philippians 3:13 (Amplified Bible)
“I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead…”
~ Be Faithful! A good farmgirl must be faithful in tending to her farm in order to reap a good harvest. She knows what needs to be done and does it…no matter how she feels. Oh boy, some days I don’t feel like doing what I’ve got to do…but that’s where being faithful steps in.
Let’s be faithful in our relationship with God. Keeping Him first. Seeking Him through reading the Word, prayer, praise and worship.
Let’s be faithful in caring for our family and home. Being a blessing to our loved ones. Serving them with a servants heart.
Let’s be faithful to raise our children to be honorable, kind, helpful and loving. A good Nation starts with a good home.
Let’s be faithful in carrying out the Golden Rule: “Do unto others what you would have them do for you.” Matthew 7:12
Let’s be faithful to take real good care of ourselves so we can take care of others. Eat healthier yes! But also take care of your emotional self. I can’t even tell you how crucial it is to have a good attitude and to speak positively to others, about situations and to ourselves. The Word of God says that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21. Sugar Pies be a good friend to yourself, guard your darlin’ heart! Do you even know how precious you are? Be your own Mama Hen and don’t allow negative self-talk. Put up a sign on your heart that says “Sweet-as-Pie Words Only! (Aunt Ruthie says so!)”. In fact make it a rule in your home!
A good farmgirl knows that if she wants to harvest corn she had better not leave the corn seed in the barn! There won’t be any corn cobs on the supper table come summertime! We harvest what we plant in life.
Galations 6:7 What a person plants, he will harvest. So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good.
Galations 6: 9 At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit.
Be a Sugar Pie Farmgirl …sow seeds of goodness…and just watch joy grow in your life!
It starts right now! I would love to hear what you would like to plant and harvest this year (in terms of your ideas, dreams or garden!)
I would like to thank you so much for your comments. They keep me inspired! I do apologize that I’ve been unable to get back to many of your questions. So I want to try answering your questions in the comment section. If you leave me a question I will leave a comment back with the answer. So check back! Let’s see if this works!
May God bless you darlin’s and keep you real good!
Aunt Ruthie
Hi Aunt Ruthie! What a beautiful post, fresh for the new year! I have lots of great ideas now.
My question for you, something I’ve wondered since I’ve started reading your blog, is what your daily routine is like. I struggle trying to create a routine for my family and I would love for you to share yours.
I can’t tell you how much inspiration I get from your posts. If you need an idea for a future post, you should do a day-in-the-life post!
Christy
Hi Aunt Ruthie, thanks for the pep talking-to!! My life was turned upside down in 2010, but your words inspire me to getup and go on!! Thank you sooooo much!!! Blessings to you always..xoxo
Yes!!! A day in the life of Aunt Ruthie, or a daily schedule would be great!!
I sooo love this post! Exactly what I needed to hear. It’s like you took the words out of my mouth, and yet, I forgot that this is the way I want to lead my life. With priorities. God first. Family second. Others third. I love it. Thanks a bunch.
HUGS
I have started the New Year off like you and am on my way! I don’t make many goals though, my motto is; “Come what may and love it!” I trust God and my will is the same as his, so I will just go forward trying to be a better follower of Jesus Christ and trying to grow and becoming all that I should be. Have a great year! :D
Very good New Year’s post !! Yes, we are all need to take time to write out our plans for this new year.
God first and everything else will be just fine !
Thanks for sharing with us and I also would love to hear about your daily schedule if you have one….
Thanks,
Pat
I have lots of plans for the New Year and I haven’t written them down. The two biggest ones are to make all meals at home/get into shape and finally turn some beautiful bed sheets into curtains…all keeping in my budget :) :) Okay…I guess that’s more like three or four :) :) Someday I’d love to have a home with land…but I’m going to learn to take care of what God has given me now…and be faithful with that :) :)
A blogger friend of mine wrote a really neat book on raising chickens. Her name is Jenna Woginrich and the book is called Chick Days. I live in an apartment so that’s out of the question for me right now…but maybe someday :) :)
In any case, this was a great post and I’m going to come back tomorrow and reread :) :) :) I’ve got an idea notebook and pen ready :) :) Oh, if you ever start a page on Facebook that goes with this blog, please let us know :) :) I’d happily join :) :)
Have a lovely week. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
OH, forgot to mention…I want to buy “Chick Days” for myself…I like having information at the ready :) :)
More love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
Sweet Ruthie . . . another truly inspiring post! What a blessing you are. I too love the “clean slate” feeling of New Years . . . a time to set aside regrets and move forward. With God at the helm, it is a ride worth taking. I am spending this next year focusing on my family. My oldest graduates from high school this year and the other two follow the next two years, so I know my time with them is limited and I want to create memories and make sure they see that God is the head of our house and the strong tower we run to. Thanks for the great reminders!
Hugs & Blessings,
Brenda
I just LOVE ya Aunt Ruthie! You always brighten my day and inspire me. You always write what my heart needs to hear. Thank you! Happy New Year; I can’t wait for the next post.
XOXO Sandy
Aunt Ruthie,
This is one of your absolute posts yet!! Thank you so much and
please keep it up!
This is about the BEST post yet. Thank you!!
Oh my, what a good morning it is. Its snowing hard, I have a coffee cake in the oven, cold ruby red grapefruit to eat and a brand new post from Aunt Ruthie. Such a treat! I am counting my blessings and enjoying your new post. Aunt Ruthie you are such a blessing to me. Your inspiring words challenge me to be a better person and homemaker. Blessings to you and your sweet family this new year.
As a true farmgirl…born and raised on a farm and now married to a farmer and living on a farm…I SO agree with all that you have to say. Have a great week….and do stop in and say hello. I would love to have you over. ;)
I am always thankful for your posts. You constantly inspire me.
Thank you Sugar Pies for your dear comments! What a way to brighten my day!! Thank you too Christy Lee for your question! Perhaps I’ll try to do a post on my daily routine one day, that’s a great suggestion!
hugs y’all!
Aunt Ruthie
Mornin’ Aunt Ruthie!!! What a what to start off a cold snowy Monday . . . with a post from you. Your words are so true, and something we need to be reminded of. God’s mercies are new every morning. Every day we get a chance to ask for forgiveness, and He removes our sin from us as far as the east is from the west. So we are white as snow. Every day we get a chance to ask Him for His plan for our life. And every day it is up to us whether or not we will be obedient to His will, or our own. I heard a sermon over the weekend talking about obedience and discipline in our lives. The speaker said that in our lives we will have pain, but we get to choose we pain we have — the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. It is HARD sometimes to do what we OUGHT to do. Downright PAINFUL some days. But if we don’t do what we ought, then we have the pain of regret. I try to choose doing what I ought. Because the pain of regret is SOOO much harder, and lasts so much longer. Prayers going out to you today my sweet friend, and for your family. A big old Missouri hug from me to you!
Thanks for the pep talk! We all need that at times, and yours came at just the right time for me! :o)
Hello Ruthie,
You are such an inspiration. If you ever have a moment, would you write to me? Our oldest son and DIL are moving to your area. No, they haven’t jobs yet, just liked the area. Would you mind sharing some tips as they get settled. First of all, they will need to find a church.
Blessings!
To “our” dear sweet Aunt Ruthie:
I have decided to adopt you, and I sure do hope that is all right with you, cuz I just couldn’t have it any other way. You seem to be that “dear aunt” that I never had in real life with golden nuggets of wisdom and just “good ol’ common sense” that used to abound everywhere years ago.
Thank you for the reminders of how to start off each day as well as a brand spankin’ new year! I just love it.
Just curious if you could either have a post or maybe create a page where you have either links or suggestions of where we can purchase/acquiare things to make our home beautiful like yours but in a frugal manner, as that is on my list for this year. I have several rooms that have recently been remodeled and NO decorations on the walls because I’m t-totally at a loss since I have a limited budget but a wine taste. Would LOVE your input on this since I just love all the things you share with us in your home.
Blessings to you, your family, and all your blog followers.
~Hugs~
Rita
Thank you so much for your post…it is encouraging and precious words you have given us. May you be blessed this coming year for sharing your generous and Godly spirit.
Hi Aunt Ruthie, I know what I want to do in the New Year of 2011.
Get my poetry published and yes I have written two children’s stories. My dream is to find a agent or publisher this year. This is the year I will do it. Of course reading your blog gives us all motivation along with help from the man upstairs. Have a good year Ruthie. Hugs Paulette
Loved your blog. It is so important to have the Lord first in our lives every day. Each morning, and this is a new thing for me, I wake and say, Jesus, my comfort, be ever present in my life. I hope I can be a comfort to others this year and have the strength to keep it up for the rest of my life. You are an inspirational person, Ruthie and a gift to us all!
I SO adore your posts!!! It will absolutely make my day when I see a new posting from you. It’s as if you can see inside my mind and heart and so beautifully express what so many of us ‘home-makers’ feel!! I’ve printed some of your comments and have them on my ice box door! Yes, the ‘ice box’ !!! Thank you for your time and talent!! You inspire me…truly!
Cindy
Love it!! Your blog is my absolute favorite. As a young mom and wife seeing the ol’ fashioned values makes my heart sing. Because it is the way I strive to live. And you are such encouragement in this fast-paced world. My questions are—will you ever join facebook or twitter? And where do you shop for your youngest daughter…she is dressed so cute and modest? I am struggling now that my girls are almost 7 that the clothes are really inappropriate for them or any age for that matter. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.
Hey Sweet Friend! Great post! I’m still putting away the sparkles but hope to finish up today. The view outside my window probably looks like yours this morning….we got 6″ of pretty white snow yesterday down here in Texas! It is gorgeous! So I will be staying put today and getting house stuff done. Hope yall have a wonderful 2011! With many blessings and family fun!
Hugs!
Patti
Happy and blessed new year to you, Aunt Ruthie!
This was a very beautiful and inspirational post.
I wish the good “old fashioned ways” become the new fashion ways in 2011.

Hi Dear Ruthie!
It’s so funny, but this morning I said to myself “today deserves a new blog from Ruthanne”. I clicked on your link and there it was! Thank you!!!
You have inspired me so many times and ways! And actually one of my new goals/adventures is starting a new etsy shop filled with vintage (20 years old +) Cookbooks! I work at an antique mall, and have found myself always lookin at those old cookbooks and wondered about the family that used them and what traditions they made with them. With that, I decided to pass on cookbooks, I find, to etsy shoppers at a good price! By the way, there is one in there you HAVE to see! You would love it! It’s called Modern Meal Maker by Martha Meade written in 1939 by General Mills, Inc. Here’s the link for it:http://www.etsy.com/listing/64964469/modern-meal-maker-by-martha-meade-1939?ref=v1_other_1
Anyway, that is one of my dream/goals, is to have a successful cookbook shop!
God bless, Heather :D
Thanks so much for the positive reminders and the action plan. They do my heart good!
Loved every word! I too am looking around at my uncluttered home enjoying it. I love all of the Christmas fun and decorations, but am content in this time of the year too…a time to breathe and dream. My home just seems easier to care for this time of the year. I believe that is why God gave us seasons…there is a time and place for all things and we need this time to breathe and dream right now even if it is with garden seed catalogs in our hands looking ahead, planning for the work of spring and its joy and beauty. Thanks for being a blessing to me and others this morning………….Raynita
Hi Aunt Ruthie,
This post is just what I needed to get me started this morning. I’m not a farm girl, but I sure do love your blog. And I sure do love you, Aunt Ruthie.
Love & Hugs,
Hattie From TN
Thank you so much for your words. It seems like if i am lost or just scrabbled in life, like a bunch of eggs at breakfast, i can sit down when my little blessings are off to school and read your blog, and i find courage in your words to keep going.. I was just telling my hubby this mornin that i feel lost and scrabbled and i just finished reading your blog i have now found a new light! Thank you so much… :) its just what i needed to hear,
Millinda
You don’t need to answer my comment, just wanted to let you know I feel such nostalgia when I read your blog, and I gather my strength from your encouragement, valuable tips and the precious word of God. Thank You for making my day (as I sit here with 10 ” snow on the ground outside) warmer, brighter, and more cheerful.
(((hugs)) to you, Paula
Great post Ruthie….love the reminders to Be Faithful…i am also LOVING the old timey music…..Keep on Sunny Side, always on the sunny side….great words :)
Blessings from Faithfulness Farm!
Gail
As always, you blog post inspires. I often think how “I want to be like YOU when I ‘grow up’!!” ;) Truly, you have such beautiful balance in your life, and it lights up my heart just to see it! It’s so clear that God is placed FIRST in your home, and I especially LOVE that! Then your family and your servant’s heart for them are at the top of your list… scriptural and heart-warming. I love the homey feeling of ‘days gone by’ everytime I visit, and this time was no different.
Happy New Year and God bless you, my friend! <
love and hugs,
~ Tanya
Dear Ruthie,
I found a email update this morning for your new writings. It was what I needed. I have found myself unemployed at the moment and I needed to hear what you had to say to help me get my head on straight again. I believe it is God’s direction that led me to what you wrote in your new post. I struggle with try to formulate my plans and getting organized. How do you keep yourself on task everyday? I start one thing and seem to go to another thing. It’s like that email joke I start laundry and then see something else that needs to be done, only to atart that and then on to something else, and so on and so on. Then I go back to I need to start laundry; only to realize what I just did. Any help or info you have would be appreciated..
Thank you and God bless you and your family for 2011 and always.
Sue
Ruthie, what a great post! I especially love how you prioritize and put God first, followed by nurturing your family. I feel the same way. Thanks for always inspiring me to do it God’s way!
Jane
Once again thank you girls for the uplifting comments, boy they warm my heart
To Rita who said: “Just curious if you could either have a post or maybe create a page where you have either links or suggestions of where we can purchase/acquire things to make our home beautiful like yours but in a frugal manner, as that is on my list for this year.”
Well, I’ve found most of my fun stuff at local antique malls and flea markets through the years. I get inspired reading Country Living magazine and their web site. First decide what theme you are going for, then gather pictures of that look so you know what to look for. Then visit some of your local antique malls and see what makes your heart sing. Always ask if the seller could come down on the price, they usually do about 10%. My curtains are just sheets or blankets that I bought online, which are a great inexpensive alternative to traditional draperies. Hope this helps!
hugs!
Aunt Ruthie
I actually appreciate the fact that you don’t post more frequently. Though I LOVE my visits to your farmhouse, it’s nice to not have to feel like I need to ‘keep up’ either. ;)
It’s inspiring to me to post less on my blog and LIVE and SERVE more as well.
Keep up the marvelous, encouraging work at your personal balance, aunt Rutie. I’ll keep visiting.
~h
To Sue: Okay, I know we can easily become distracted and loose our focus, that happens to me sometimes. I would suggest that you make a short daily list of things you need to get done today, then put a star next to the most important. Tell yourself that you must get that one thing done right now and you must stay on task. You are in control so don’t let other things get in the way (unless it’s an emergency like your friend calls and wants to go antiquing and have lunch at the tea room that makes the best chocolate cake ev-ah! just kidding!) I sometimes use a timer and set it for 15 minutes and play beat the clock. I also clean one room at a time, so when that’s done I at least have one room clean, then go on to the next. So if you get distracted when you leave that room to put something away, get back in there and finish it. The fun comes when you can cross that task off of your list! woo hoo!
hugs!
Aunt Ruthie
Loved your ideas today. I have decided to write at least one chatty letter a week this year. I have plenty of friends that I am tired of only hearing from via email.
I also plan to get out the junk this year! Either take it to the thrift shop (although that can be dangerous) or donate it.
Really concentrate on my etsy business and start a blog.
PHEW, that should keep me busy enough
Michele
i just want to thank you for this writing it has made my day and i really enjoy your blog keep up the good work and verrrrrrrrrry inspiring words. again i say thanks you have put more hope in my 2011.
Every farm girl needs a little pep talk now and then – thanks for your encouragement on the journey! You are so right about taking care of our emotional selves, speaking kind words, and guarding your heart. Those are things I am trying to lovingly teach to the girls in our youth group (my husband is a youth pastor). Thanks again! I look forward to your posts!
Aunt Ruthie,
It was just this last fall that I stumbled across your Sugar Pie Farmhouse website and blog. Actually, it wasn’t too much of a stumble I was linked to you from the Gooseberry Patch blog. Don’t you just love the Gooseberry Patch cookbooks ? I love your website and I love your blog. It takes me to a more simple time and place. Who couldn’t have a little more simplicity in their life?
I wanted to comment on your most recent post. I must tell you, my new found friend it made me feel like I can conquer the world. It made me take a deep breath, stand a little taller and walk a little faster. Suddenly, I had things to accomplish today.
Your post was just what I needed to hear. I will refer back to it often .
That is very good writing. Thanks Aunt Ruthie. I am so happy I found you.
Aunt Ruthie, (although you are certainly not old enough to be my Aunt!!!)
Thank you so much for your blog. I absolutely love it! Thank you for all of your tips, recipes, decorating ideas, and the wonderful pictures and music with each post. Sometimes I just sit and cry while reading and listening because its so great to read about someone who still takes the everyday simple pleasures of homemaking and family, and God (and gosh darn yes that good ol’ pie sitting on the counter to cool) SERIOUSLY!!!! I love love love your philosophy of starting each day with prayer, and a sink full of sudsy water to clean up not only our “spiritual house” but our “literal house”…starting our day with a clean slate on all fronts! For 2011 I have alot of goals…so it’s time to sit down and write them out as you suggested. One of my more fun goals is to get myself down into a size 10 or so ( that will take work..a not so fun goal), purchase a shirt waisted dress at my local Goodwill, a frilly little polka dot apron, and a set of pearls…(do you know where I’m going with this?) bake the most delectable pie from one of your recipes….then take a pic of myself dressed in it with slice of pie in hand and send it to YOU!!!! (ha ha) I’ve always wanted to dress like June Cleaver or Donna Reed…Well……from one Southern gal wannabe to the other….thanks for sittin a spell with me and pardon me while I go fix me a sweet tea and get on with my day. Keep those posts comin as quick as you can….we all lovem and love you too! God Bless!
Happy New Year!
Okay, I detect another spiritual gift that you have been given and that is the gift of exhortation. (last time I mentioned the gift of encouragement) You spur people to act on what they need to do, thank you! Here are a few of my goals:
1) have an examined life- before I lay my head on my pillow each night ask the Lord to reveal any sin I committed that day.
2)memorize scripture
3)take an oil painting class (even though I have painted for years, there is still so much to learn from other artist)
4)remodel two bedrooms (I am now an empty nester)
5)eat healthier
6)practice hospitality- have quest over more often
Have a good and Godly year!
Hello Aunt Ruthie thanks for another great post. I find your timing is great; seems just when Im thinking, “hmm… I could use a new post from SugarPie Farmhouse for some homemaking encouragement” theres an email in my inbox letting me know about a new post! Thanks for taking the time to write them and encourage us stay-at-home wifes and moms.
Blessings!
Nicole
Thank you, Aunt Ruthie, for your wonderful wise words. I want to keep sowing good things so I will reap the good, too. I am focusing this year on prayer because it changes everything, most especially my attitude, my heart, my words. Everything else in life seems to flow from that. Your posts are amazing, and all the more special because you do put so much time and thought into them. Thank you.
Always exactly what I need to hear, whenever I need to hear it! Thank you, thank you!
My goals for this year are mostly pretty simple. As a new Christian, my first goal is to read the Bible and learn to pray. I am hoping, too, to develop healthier habits so I will be ready to have kids when my husband decides he’s ready. :)
I also have a question: How do you choose your meals? (Do you create some sort of schedule and rotate them on a weekly or monthly basis? Do you base your meals off of new recipes you see, or do you wander the grocery for fresh produce that looks good and make a meal from that?) I’m a newlywed, so I’m still having trouble figuring out what to cook all the time! I feel like I’m already getting in a rut!
That was actually several questions disguised in the first one…but thank you in advance!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Sugar Pie Farm !!! I wish you operated a “Bed & Breakfast” there, cause I would sure love to come for a visit !! Someone else mentioned that they’d like to see you on Facebook. Me too !!
You are such an encouragement !! Thank you so much !! 2010 was a very hard year in several ways. You have inspired me to hope for a better year this year. Blessings on you !
I have had a wonderful day and just got home to this WONDERFUL pist from you!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have alot of plans for this coming year so now I WILL write them down and keep them handy! I, too, like to have a pretty cup to dring my hot chocolate. I started my own blof in Sept. and feel some pressure to blog more often. I may take a page from your book and rethink that. I do not want to take time from what I should be doing for my husband and my home. My SIL DOES raise chickens so if you would like to contact her, please e-mail me and I will give you her e-mail. No matter how often you post I love every single one. I LOOOOVE the idea of a “day in the life” post of your daily routine!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE????? It would be such a help to so many people!!!!! XO, Pinky
Oh how I love your comments darlin’s!! Thank you!
Ellen this is for you sugar: First of all I am so happy to hear you are a new Christian! Yay!!! Welcome to the family of God! I’m so proud of you for wanting to read the Bible and learn to pray! That just warms my heart. The wonderful thing about prayer is that it’s just pouring your heart out to your Heavenly Father (Papa) who loves you sooooo much! He cares about everything little thing about you. He thinks you are adorable! You are the apple of His eye! Just talk to Him about anything and everything!
Now about my meal planning: I’m not too structured when it comes to planning my meals, mainly because I like some feedom during the week. If my day turns out to be busy then I cook something easy. I do try to make a grocery list based on a few recipes on Sunday, because my grocery shopping day is Monday. I try a new recipe maybe every two weeks, on the other days I cook what my family loves; tacos, different kinds of chicken dishes, pasta and meatballs, soups, salads, fresh veggies, etc. We have been cutting down on red meat a bit and so I’m on the lookout for more heathier meals to prepare. Don’t worry about being in a rut honey, think of it as preparing what you and your hubby enjoys. And when you have kids they will have their favorites that they will anticipate every week! You’ll just be creating warm memories of home as you prepare your signiture dishes! Just spice things up with a new recipe every now and then. No worries!
I love cookbooks and so I’ve collected quiet a few (especially ones with stories) and I really enjoy just sitting down with a whole pile with a glass of sweet tea and reading through them. When I see a recipe that looks yummy I’ll give it a try. If it is a keeper then I make a copy of the page and put it in a 3 ring binder–in a plastic sheet protector. I keep all of my favorites in my binder so it’s easy to find when I want to cook it again. Anyhoo hope that helps darlin’!
Hugs,
Aunt Ruthie
A lovely post. I love Christmas but by New Year’s Eve I am ready to pack it all up and move forward. I’ve been making my mental 2011 TO~Do list for myself. I hope to move forward with my career, fix some problems cloggiing up my life and remember to take the time to stop and smell the roses.
Very well said! I especially agree with you about the amount of time devoted to blog writing. It’s so easy to let something like that consume you (especially when it’s fun!). I am tempted to go over-the-top on my own blog, and I sincerely do want to continue becoming a better blogger. But I agree with you…when you put God first and family second, you really see how low on the list of priorities the blog is. Like you, I do the best I can in the time allotted, making sure that the important things in life stay priorities. My blog continues to be fun, but I’m not letting it consume me (yay!).
Blessings to you Aunt Ruthie…you are such sweet child of God and I do thank him and you for your words of wisdom….you are such a Blessing to all of us….Beautiful post as always….
Happy New Year and may God Bless you and your family…
Tonja
Thanks – I needed that!
I LOVE your blog! My mom told me about it about a month ago, and look at it nearly everyday! I too am a mother of four (four daughters) and we’ve been snowed in for a few days. This is unusual for us, since we live in Alabama! What did you and your family do when you were snowed in? Thank you for your blog. It is GREAT!!
~Lindsey :)
What a lovely way to start the New Year. Someting that helps me is changing my verbage. Instead of all the “shoulds, needs” to be done, I tell my self I “get” to clean so my house is pretty, or I get to do the laundry so things smell fresh again, it takes the edge off and I can enjoy my wee jobs.! Also I set the timer for 15 minutes-then get to finish small taskes, take a 5 minute me break, then repeat, it’s so much less intimidating! Thanks for your suggestions and insights.
Well, I’ve been sick all day today with strep throat (which is NO fun for this momma of 4 sweet kiddos.) Reading this blog has been such a joy today and THEN getting to read all the comments and Ruthie’s replies…so fun! It’s nice to know you read your comments and take time to reply to these lovely ladies who comment to you. I’m like everyone else on here and just love to read new Aunt Ruthie posts. I have to say that this blog inspires me more than any other blog out there that I’ve read. I just love the vintage feel, the music and how Miss Ruthie incorporates the Word of our Lord Jesus into her encouragements and ideas. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!! I guess my question would be…where do you get all of your ADORABLE vintage clip art??
Hi Ruthie,
Boy, that post was just what i needed to hear. I’ve been feeling low for the last couple of days and you are so right. Put God first and ask him to show the way. Good advice. I’d already made up my mind to get started on “Spring cleaning” right now so when Spring comes I can enjoy the outdoors and not have to worry about the interior of my house. I’ve got lots of ideas floating around in my head and plan on putting them into action and your encouraging words are music to my ears. Thanks Ruthie….God bless ya.
Evelyn
Aunt Ruthie, What a breath of fresh air for the new year! I can almost smell Windex in the air from the squeeky clean post.(And I think most of us farmgirls love the smell of CLEAN)!
The Lord has really given you a gift to touch others lives with the simple things we take for granted! I feel he has blessed me everytime I read your blog! Your blog was the first one I found before I knew what a blog was? It was then a little bell went off and I knew I HAD to have a computer so I could be a part of the wonderful and creative world of blogging!
My question is, how are you coming along with those fiddle lessons? I am 56 and I have been trying to learn fiddle for the last 5 years. I always tell people I can bring a tear to your eye when I play! Even if it’s NOT a sad song!:) I would love to see a video of you and Summer playing fiddle.
I too am trying to get a handle on my household chores. I will have that on my list and will be looking forward to your tips and hints on housework.
I am an artist and my work centers around the Christmas season. I have found myself so busy at that time that I could not enjoy what God has given me and my family. With your words of encouragement , I am planning a head start on all my Christmas activities so I can truly take in the CHRISTmas season as it should be.
Thank you for your caring touch!
Blessings,Becky R
Great post! Lots of great tips, ideas and Inspiration! I will check out your planner source. I’ve already purchased a couple of other books you’ve reviewed and recommended and I’m sure this will be no exception. :)
Simplify is right up there at the top of my list too!! :)
Oh Aunt Ruthie! You are truly a God-send and a breath of fresh air! I feel refreshed just reading your blogs. They give me hope and inspiration. Thank you so much.
Hi Aunt Ruthie!
Happy new Year to you. First I would like to say thank you for this wonderful site, I have shared it with some of my friends that appreciate everything you put into it!
My goal this year is to complete my registry exams for Ultrasound. I have been chasing this now for awhile and even sat for the first part of the exam last October, and didn’t pass. Which from all I’ve heard is not that unusual, it’s a pretty tough exam. After I accomplish that, I guess I c could do pretty much anything! The Word tells us “I can do all things through Christ Jesus…” That is so, or He wouldn’t have said it!
Lord Bless and keep you :_)
Dear Ruthie, how blessed to journey through your posting tonight; there is nothing more important than being faithful to God. 2010 ended sorrowfully for my family as my sweet Mom suddenly passed away on Christmas morning. It takes a great faith when grief seems to consume……because The Lord is merciful and just, I will take hold of this new year with both hands and pass on to others the giving spirit that was our Mom……..I appreciate your leading readers to take on 2011 in His Steps Ruthie………
God Bless,
Barbra.
So many nuggets of wisdom in this post. Making your everyday moments lovelier – I loved that! It’s why I have flowers growing near my washing line – something lovely to look upon as you go about those everyday household tasks makes them so much more pleasant.
I also loved your ‘little by little’ gem in reference to the coins. I often find coins when I vacuum under my sofa cushions. In the Proverbs it says ‘he who gathers money little by little makes it grow’ . I think this wisdom can be applied to all aspects of homemaking. I think sometimes we see your lovely home and your organizational skills and go wow! Perhaps some of us are overwhelmed and forget that you put your home and collections together over many years. And you cultivated those artful arranging skills of those lovely items over a long period … getting better at it as you went along! It all takes time. I always say ‘Choose the best and leave the rest’ . I don’t have to perfect every home art but I can choose the ones that will work best for me and benefit my family most in this season of my life. It is good to bear this in mind as we plan our goals for the year.
Thank you for your God-given talents of edification and encouragement! May God richly bless you and your precious family, and may you achieve all your goals with God’s help and strength!
It was a great post. There’s something special about sitting down on a cold morning with a new, blank calendar. Gives you those first day of school tingles with its new paper smell, crinkliness, and endless possibilities. I also read your suggestion in the comments about setting the timer for 15 minutes. That’s exactly what I do! Nice to know I’m not the only one. When I’m racing around this afternoon tidying up before the kids get home from school, I’ll be thinking of you. Race ya.
Thank you Aunt Ruthie!
This post was just the “kick in the seat” I needed today. I grabbed a notepad and pen and started my goal list before I even reached the end of the post. Thank you also for reminding me to keep things in the proper order – seek first. I so often try to run ahead of my Father when I need to wait on Him.
I l.o.v.e. the vintage images you use, too. So sweet and refreshing, the way life is meant to be.
Blessings to you and yours.
Always looking forward to more….
Oh Aunt Ruthie! I really needed your wisdom today! I LOVE this time of year with all its possibilities, but by February, I usually have the negative voices screaming in my ear and I start to give up. How silly! Thank you for reminding me that God is right there to listen and to lead. My goals are always attainable if I keep them right in front of me and sow and reap those seeds! I have a muddy backyard that’s just ripe for the planting and a business that needs some attention to grow and prosper. I love your heart, dear Auntie. You are my inspiration. Thank you!
Ruth Ann,
Thank you for your simple and timeless advice. Your posts are always inspiring.
My goal this year is to get out and do some more enjoyable things! I stay inside all the time, waiting and wondering if something bad will happen if I choose to go out. Well, no more! I’ve already ordered tickets to a local college basketball game, a Penn State basketball game, and a Johnny Cash tribute band. Of course, the venues I’ve decided on will do nothing but please my hubby! :o)
Thank you for the inspiration, Aunt Ruthie. Your blog touches all of us. :o)
Wooo Hooo! Your comments darlin’s are a wonderful confirmation of what the Lord laid on my heart to write about! I love it when that happens! I also love your words of wisdom gals!!
Here’s more answers:
Lindsey, you asked what we do when we are snowed in: well, we do get snow, in fact there’s a couple inches on the ground right now…it looks so beautiful! Anyhoo, we don’t get enough snow to get snowed in. We have a jeep and can get to town if we need to except when there is black ice on the roads, then we stay home, build a fire, simmer soup, play some games, watch a movie…fun stuff like that. If I know a storm is on it’s way, I do head down to the market to stock up in case the power goes out.
Renee, I get the majority of my vintage images from vintage magazines that I purchase at antique stores —from the 1940’s and 50’s. I love them too! They are a slice of American life that I would like to see more of….if all of us homemakers could pull together we can help restore America to her original place…a nation blessed by God.
Barbra, I’m truly sorry to hear about your mama. I’ll be praying for God to blanket you with His love and comfort. Bless you darlin’!
Hugs y’all!
Aunt Ruthie
Oh Aunt Ruthie! Just what I needed to get the new year started! Thank you ever so much!
Thanks so much for your inspiration in this post! God Bless.
Happy New Year, Aunt Ruthie!! Your posts have a way of putting the pep back in my step. I can’t wait to get that list going. I have a habit of thinking and dreaming, but I do believe putting pen to paper will make it all move from dreams to reality. Thank you for that motivation and the darling images you use always put a smile on my face and a song in my heart.
If you don’t mind another question, I’m wondering whether you have any “Blue Ribbon Product Reviews” planned for the new year?
Hi Aunt Ruthie, You always inspire me to be the best homemaker I can be and I love that. I love that you remind me that this is truly the most important thing (next to a realtionship with the Lord) that I will do with my life. Thank you for all you do to encourage us gals to keep creating the home of our dreams for ourselves and our loved ones. I have a whole list of blogs that I enjoy reading, but yours is my ultimate favorite.
Hugs,
Valerie
Hey Aunt Ruthie,
Thanks so much for this post. I am almost in tears reading it.
It is something that I ABSOLUTELY needed to read today.
I have grown weary. I am tired. I have been feeling like giving up the fight.
So, this is just what I needed.
I would like to sow less clutter in my home. But have just felt so overwhelmed with it I haven’t even started. But, I am going to start. One small drawer at a time. And do one each day.
I want to sow taking better care of my family. So, I am going to.
I want to sow being a good friend. So I am going to.
But first, and before all the things (including some raised bed gardens that I want to try) I am going to pray and listen to what God is saying. I have gotten out of the habit of that and I can tell.
Again, thanks for the encouragement. God bless you and your family.
Ruth, I just want to thank you for your beautiful web-site and for your Heart! Actually…..I need to thank God….and I will! You are a huge blessing to me…..I have had a few tough years….and you have been a happy place for me and my boys….I play the music on your website every evening in my home. It blessed us….my twin 13 yr old boys feel at home when they hear your music, and the pictures make us all feel happy! I read a quote once….”Beauty is a resting place for the soul”…..your website is a resting place for my soul!
Kelli
thanks Aunt ruthie, this was good reading and a great reminder for me to start the year in a positive way. It’s hard for me to know what is the most important at times……God, family, work, church, friends and in what order? i believe God plants dreams in our heart but sometimes our ability to be busy gets in the way of fulfilling the dreams God has for us……how do I decipher and know what is God sent and what is good?
Some one once asked….” Are there blessings you have asked for but then have refused to pursue? Have you been hanging back in the waiting room perhaps because you have allowed fear to convince you its better to be safe and ineffective than risk being used by God?
Would love to hear your thoughts on how you manage God/family and home………many blessings to you in this new year!
Thanks for the encouragement for the new year! I have already started cleaning closets, drawers, cabinets, etc. this year. I have much to do and not as much time as I would like but every time I accomplish one thing, I feel motivated to keep it up. This year, I want to get and keep things in order at home, spend more time reading, work on editing my mom’s devotionals to try to get them published and many other things. I’m planning on a productive year for the Lord!
Although it would take too long to explain, your comments on this post have been part of an answer to prayer for me. God bless you-please continue to blog, I truly value what you have to say, you are so encouraging and uplifting. I too would love to learn more of your routines and perhaps-if you have time-how you plan your meals?
Aunt Ruthie, You create such a warm feeling in all of us. I am so glad to see your posts and see how your family is going. Hope that you post again soon.
wonderful post!
In France, we are not used to hear of such speeches… thoughts remain secret especially if we talk about religion, money and success…
Your life is a true cocoon! your beliefs are your leimotiv and it is very beautiful, very humble! Thanks for sharing this with us.
For my part, I want to know if there is an American internet site where I could get American articles without having to pay postage charges incredible!
On the other hand, if you want and if you are interested, I’m ready to share my French culture with you…. This could be a wonderful exchange of thoughts!
Soon you read
What a joy to visit with you again, and what an awesome ministry you have, you have answered this call so eloquently.
Sue
Thank YOU Ruth Ann!!! LOVELY post as always!!! I love that you did a question/answer too! You have the sweetest, most Home-y way about you..and I am one blessed Sugar Pie for having come across your blog over a year ago! God is good! :)
Aunt Ruthie , Thank you for the lovely post. Your post is always a blessing to read. Last year was a tough year for my husband and me but I believe 2011 will be a year filled with many blessings. Thank you for writing such encouraging words. May God continue to bless you and your family.
Hello Aunt Ruthie, You are a blessing in my life. I can’t tell you how much your words and blog have helped me! I left work about 1 1/2 yrs ago to take care of my sick grandmother and to have more time with my children that are growing up so fast (16 and 14). I went to my husbands work party and was asked “what do you do?” I responded “take care of my family” This lady then responded “but that doesn’t bring any money in and help your husband?” She then said quite loudly “your JUST A MOM?” I was so upset I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t let her know how sick my grandmother was, my past work or how important it was to me to be with and take care of my family and not so tired from “working” outside the home. I had enough on my plate. I just looked at her, smiled and said “yes, Im blessed to be able to do so, and my husband supports me in this” But I really was and still am a bit upset at “your JUST A MOM?” I went blog hopping the day after this party and found you! Your words are just how I feel about God, Family and Home!!! I still don’t know how to respond to the question “what do you do?” Thank you so much Aunt Ruthie your light has made me smile ;) Blessings to you and your family. My Best ~Kimberly
Sounds like we have a lot in common Aunt Ruthie! Thank you for your encouragement and wise words! And thank you so much for keeping your focus on our Heavenly Father! In some “weird” way, it helps me keep my focus on Him as well! :)
This is to Kimberly~~~To be “just a Mom” is one of God’s greatest Blessings to you~~Cherish every single moment you have with them, they grow up SO fast. And Bless you that you can and do have the time to care for your Grandmother, She probably still has much to teach you and loves you for what you do for her~~just think some Grandma’s aren’t so lucky to have a caring person and end of somewhere they are just existing! As far as “that woman”~~ some people just say things before thinking!!!!! She probably wishes she could have the opportunity to stay home and be “just a Mom”
Kathy
I love this post! I have enjoyed visiting your blog from time to time, and I am so glad I visited it today! :)
Thank you for your inspiring post on the New Year!
I love the beginning of a new year too. It sure is refreshing!
Blessings!
~Amy
Oh aunt ruthie! just another question : can you give me your cowgirl boots brand?
Thank’s a lot !
Thank you gals for your encouragement!!
To Kim, yes there will be more product reviews comin’ up!
To Meredith, it is hard sometimes to keep our priorities straight, because we tend to say “yes” too much to other things rather than our home and family. My rule of thumb is this…I ask myself “will this thing that I’m asked to do or want to do benefit my family or will it cause me to neglect my family?” That is where I find my answer. If we still have kids at home then taking care of them is our assignment (God’s will for us).
To Flo; I would love to hear about your French culture!
To Kimberly: Bless you honey for taking care of your Grandmother! And ya know what? You answered that woman’s question PERFECTLY!!!! You were gracious and spoke with eloquence! Some people just do not realize the incredible importance of a mother at home taking care of her family! A strong Nation begins with a good home! Bless you darlin’!
To Flo: I have a few cowboy boots, the brands are Corral Vintage and Ariat.
Good stuff! I love it! Don’t give up on your dream of having chickens; it is such a worthwhile endeavor. We call our chicken coop “Chicken Therapy” because the girls (and boy) are so much fun to watch. Happy New Year!
You will never know how much you and your wonderful site encourages me. Just seeing your pretty planner pages in your notebook and cute coffee cup got me inspired. I have had my mind and heart on other things and hadn’t taken time to plan and dream dreams for 2011. I think it it is due to the fact that I have been preoccupied thinking about, praying for, and writing letters to my youngest son, who is in Marine boot camp at this very moment. He for sure is living his dream as I type. I loved what you said about a strong nation begins with a good home! How true Aunt Ruthie! A mom’s job is so important. I hope that some of your plans and dreams for 2011 do come true! Keep us posted. Love~Donna
Just want to say thank you Aunt Ruthie for his post and for answering all of these questions. It was fun reading your answers.
i just love you. Wishing you and your family many blessings in 2011
Dear Aunt Ruthie:
I am so glad that I found you and thank you for taking the time to write your blogs as they really mean a lot. 2010 was not a good year and was very sad for our family, but I never want to lose sight of all the gifts that I have been given, to remain faithful and thankful and to keep moving forward. Happy New Year and God bless.
Poor Aunt Ruthie! There I go! I’m gonna purchase me some of those cute chalk pens, a chalk board and write this on my chalk board in cute colors:
FARMGIRL UP!
LOL! I love it! I live on an old horse farm (no horses but, well, it’s a farm!) and I adore that saying. Thank you for the blessing of your encouragement and love! You are my favorite place to visit on the web!
Thanks for a great post! Thanks for the encouraging words and scriptures! :)
I want to thank you for this wonderful post. I have read and re-read it a number of times and it inspires me!!
I have been pouring over my seed catalogs and can’t wait to reap my harvest of goodness!!
I love the incorporation of the Bible verses as well as the wonderful vintage images.
Thank you!!
Great overview of how to approach living! And I can believe it takes you two days to prepare a post! They are always marvelous! Bess
Thank you so much Ruthie for the inspiration and scripture. I need this SO MUCH today especially. I will bookmark this post and read it over and over. Blessings to you and your dear family!
What a “coincidence” that I happened to SugarPieFarmhouse today! I had started down this exact path a few weeks ago when I spotted a bright shiney object, took a fork in the road and lost my way. Your post has put me back on track and as I was reading along, I had another great thought that startled me as it was something I didn’t know I always wanted. Ha! Isnt God tricky?! And clever, too! Thanks for the pep talk. I’ll see you again further down the path. Who knows how many shiney objects I might encounter.
Yesterday I made the decision for home and not to pursue grad school. Your post helped me with that decision. I love the Lord, my family and being a nurse. However, I thought I needed more. What my hearts desire really is, is to create a warm, loving nest like you write about. So many friends say it is already; but I felt like it wasn’t enough. A sincere thanks for your ministry.
I would love to hear your ideas for creating fun times with “tweens” one on one and with their friends.
Blessings !
I love the idea! I need to do it soon. Thanks for reminding us to get our thoughts organized!
Valerie

I had to visit this post again and again, such Godly advice, written with whimsy and delight!
My favorite part was where you encouraged us to not only “dream” but to try to put our dreams into action. We all have hopes and dreams that perhaps we have tucked away or allowed to be buried thinking they are dead and gone. Father God gives us talents and abilities, He made us to dream, create and inspire others.
Where would we be if people didn’t dig in and work hard to make their imagined ideas, creations come to be?
My loving husband purchased me a guitar (I haven’t played in years) and now I am playing Praise/Hymns for our Children’s worship on Wednesday evening services.
Your posts always inspire me to strengthen my relationship with the Lord, and be a better wife, mother and homemaker! Thank you for taking the time to lift us bloggers up!
This is my first visit to your lovely blog and I am very pleased with what I found here. A treasure to be sure. You have given me wonderfully positives to think about and to act upon. I could have really used your inspired thoughts when I was a young wife and mother. It is never too late to be inspired however and I am. I have a closet with my name on it to tackle asap and then another. I have bushes to prune and flowers to plant. My children are adults now but they need inspiration as I did when I was young so I can tell them about Sugar Pie Farm House. Thank you very much for caring enough to share your heart.
God bless you and yours!
Nancy M.
I LOVE your site and have it linked on my site for people to see. This New years post is right in line with what was in my heart this month and also confirmation on what needs to be done. Thank you for being a light in this world and being so inspiring to other ladies.
Wow! I love your blog!! I adore all of the vintage images you’ve used in your post!!
I just now read this New Years post and loved it!!! All good ideas. Thank you !
my mother told me about your blog an i just love it. thank you.
Oh dear, sweet Ruthie – I can never thank you enough for this wonderful blog! I am so grateful to you for taking the time to put such a beautiful site together and for sharing it with us! Your Christian faith and incredibly positive attitude are so evident through all of your stories (and photos!). Because you truly live out your faith, you inspire others to live out theirs. I did not have this example of Christian faith growing up, and I know that the Lord has blessed me and countless others with such beautiful examples of wisdom – like yourself and your precious bloggers – so that we can get a glimpse of what living out the Christian faith looks and feels like. This is such a gift, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
May you keep on bloggin’, and May the Lord continue to bless you and shine His face upon you always,
Your “sistah” in Christ,
Barbara
Needed a little “sugar” this Morning…. You fixed up a mighty taste treat! Sure wish I could just pull up a chair at the table this morning and have a cup of coffee with you too ! Miss you Cugina Dolce!
Aunt Ruthie,
Just found your website–AWSOME!!
Will make sure I keep it as one of my favorites. We need all the
help in our homes these days that we can get. I too believe that all homes should revolve around our Heavenly Father and his Son Jesus Christ–isn’t he part of our families too.
Such sunshine you inspire to shine.
thanks,
kk
Love your blog/site! You’re pictures are so wonderful..I love the retro/ vintage feel….Reminds me of my great-grandmother! You really have created a place to call Home..thanks so much for all the inspiration…God is using you in such a wonderful way!
Thank you, Aunt Ruthie! Your beautiful post really touched me today. You know, when we get to “that age”, sometimes we start feeling like the caterpillar in the caccoon, just waiting to burst out all fresh and brand new! And the Hubby and kiddos don’t seem to understand what’s got Mama into a sort of a tizzie.
That’s where I’m at at the current moment, and your post was like having an old friend pat me on the back and say, “Honey, it’s alright.”
Thank you for the comfort!
