One of you “Sugar Pie Sisters” is gonna win all of these goodies!
Just before you head on over to the Forum, I wanted to share my little day trip that I took last week with my sister-in-law Linda (I’m married to her hilarious brother! That boy has been making me laugh for thirty years! It will be 31 years in June!)
We headed west of Springfield Missouri about an hour to the little town of Bolivar. Our first stop was this adorable red barn…Pappy’s Antiques and Cakery! So Stinkin’ cute!
Why Can’t I live here?
Take a peek inside…lot’s of neat stuff!
I wonder how many pies were made with those rolling pins? How many meals were cooked on this stove…how many biscuits were baked in that sweet little oven?
Farmhouse Romantic!
Lots of antique eye candy everywhere!
I found something red that I liked! An old General Store Coffee Mill. It did not fit my budget, so I had to leave it there….I know it’s crying for me.
Farmhouse Kitchen goods.
Love all of that white-ware! Platters, bowls, cake stands, pitchers….so farmhouse-y!
Here’s Linda paying her two dollars for two vintage silver butter knives. The gal behind the counter is the Owner and Cake Baker of Pappy’s Antiques and Cakery. Her nickname is Cupcake! She is as sweet as one too! The phone number for Pappy’s is 417-777-2253.
I also purchased two silver butter knives for two dollars! Linda and I both liked the extra long and wide blade, perfect for spreading sweet cream butter on toast or making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. For such a small price, it’s fun to have a few vintage pieces to use in our everyday life. It’s fun to think of the stories they could tell! It’s the simple things in life that bring joy isn’t it? The markings say Alaska Silver!
My other purchase was this Milk Glass barnyard rooster! I think I’ll name him Jim Ed.
Talking about cakes with Miss Cupcake from Pappy’s, made us hungry…so we headed to the town square to have lunch at The Country Hearth Tea Room…
We opened the door and saw this darling idea! Inspiring words courted us as we stepped up the stairs to the charming Tea Room!
So charming!
We had the most delicious chicken salad sandwich evah! There were grapes and pecans in the chicken mixture and the bread was grilled cinnamon raisin bread! I never would have thought of that kind of bread, but oh my goodness it was sooooooo scrumptious!! Paired with Apricot Iced Tea and fresh fruit…..well, let’s just say it was dreamy!
Here’s a closer look! The bread was crispy and warm, while the chicken salad was cold and full of flavor! We kept saying MMMMmmmm…this is so good!
They had cake…..somebody had to eat it….so we volunteered. Two flavors were singing our names…
A layered Lemon Sponge cake….tart and sweet….cool and so refreshing….
And a fabulous Double Chocolate dream of a cake…..
So moist and creamy…it melted in our mouth!
The town square was our view out of the window! We got to watch small town life in action! This is the courthouse in the middle of the square. They have a tribute to World War 2 veterans.
Horton’s department store was having a sale. This was the hub of shopping before the malls sprang up everywhere!
This old feller, (let’s call him good old Jeb) was crossing the street with his rifle. Not something you would see in Californy, (where I’m from!). He was heading to the bullet store…probably needed to stock up on some buckshot to scare away those pesky possums from gettin’ to his chickens.
This town (Bolivar, Missouri), and the Court House, with it’s clock tower, reminds me of the movie Back To The Future! Across the street was Dan and Stan’s Pharmacy and down the road a piece was a cute beauty parlor called The Snip ‘n’ Clip. Ain’t that cute?
On the way home we stopped at a few more antique malls and enjoyed the country scenes along the way….
Well gals, thanks for stopping by….now you just gotta scoot on over to have a little Girl-Talk with your Sugar Pie Sisters! Remember the more you post in the GIRL-TALK FORUM the better chance you have of winning all of those goodies!
I will be naming the winner on May 2, 2009!
I sure do appreciate all of your sweet-as-sugar-pie comments! Keep them coming! They really make what I am doing here at Sugar Pie Farmhouse so worth my time and effort! I love hearing what you have to say! If you like what you see please let me know! When you leave a comment, I would love to know where y’all are from!
God Blessings and hugs to y’all!
Yee Haw!
Aunt Ruthie
Oh yay think I’m first!!!! Ok…..we have a big garden this year. Corn,Eggplant,Okra, green beans, watermelon, cantelope, carrots, cuccumbers, tomatoes, hot peppers, squash, pumpkins and gourds. What a bountyful harvest we will have. I just love it! It gives me such peace. My daughter helped plant. Such a great thing to teach our kids. Ok, I’m off to more posts!!! HE! HE! HE! Smooches. Nicole from Texas.
Love that Paula! You know I have three of her recipe books and I always go to them when I want a down right good southern recipe. My hubby’s favorite recipe is Corn Casserole. Its so easy you can prepare it blind folded. So here we go!
Paula Deen’s Corn Casserole
1 Package Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix
1 Can cream corn
1 can reg.corn
1 cup sour cream
1 stick of butter Don’t let this scare you pls. :-)
Mix all ingredients togther in a bowl. Pour into a 9×13 baking pan. Bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes. Or until browned on top.
Enjoy!!!!
How exciting! I truly look forward to each new post you add.
You are a blessing~ keep up the good work.
We have chickens and we love them. We have 6 white tail and we just bought 5 more. I can’t tell you how better they taste. So rich! The color of the yolk is just beautiful. They are also very comical. love it when they talk. Well you know chicken talk. LOL! I love to sit on my back porch and hear them scobble. Who is laying in what laying box or who layed the biggest egg. Oh yes! there is compatition. We feed them chicken feed as well as table scraps, fruit and green salad. They love it! Chickens are easy to care for. I clean out there coops once a week and lay fresh hay. We use the hay from the coop as fertilizers for our garden. That’s pretty much it on our chickens. ;-) Hugs~
That town looks like trouble with a capital “T” and I live in Kansas so it’s a do-able drive in my bug-de-doo! I love finding Antique places like that and your little lunch looked like heaven! I feel a field trip coming on! I didn’t know Paula Deen had a new cookbook….how could have that passed under my radar? I love her!
That looks like another wonderful road trip!
You two sure do know how to plan ’em. ;-)
Your trip with Linda looks like heaven on earth!!! What a blessing to have a friend/SIL!) so close to enjoy farmhouse fun!
Oh how I long to live there! But adding a little country life to my city life isn’t too difficult with all the information I glean from Sugar Pie Farm House……thank you for all of your efforts as this has been a HUGE blessing to me and our home!
Many Blessings,
Melissa

Hey Gal~
I cracked up when I read that you named your new china rooster, Jim Ed. We had an Uncle Jim Ed in our family. He passed on several years ago but I still like to say his name because it is Soooo down homey. When I was expecting our son, I wanted to call him Jesse Ray because it also sounds very down homey too but lots of folks said it sounded too hickish. Well……We named him Jesse William in honor of his grandad and great grandad, but we call him Jesse Ray because that is who he is….our down home boy!
Blessings~ LillySue
P.S. If you want to see that down home boy fishing, just pop over to see my latest post! XXXX

I am submitting a muffin recipe that is the best I have ever eaten. I think you and the other “Sista’s” will enjoy them.
Thank you, Ruth Ann for your wonderful posts. I always look forward to hearing from you.
♥♥THE ORIGINAL MORNING GLORY MUFFIN♥♥
These muffins have a great shelf life and actually taste better a day after baking, when the flavors have melded. Store them at room temperature, covered, for up to 3 days, or freeze them for up to 2 months. These are great with butter cream or cream cheese frosting also.
1 1/4 cups sugar
2 1/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shredded, sweetened coconut
3/4 cup Earthbound Farm Organic Raisins
1 large organic apple, peeled and grated
1 cup (8 ounces) crushed pineapple, drained
2 cups grated carrots
1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans or walnuts
3 large eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Position a rack in the lower third of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees F.
Sift or whisk together the sugar, flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl. Add the coconut, raisins, apple, pineapple, carrots, and nuts, and stir to combine.
In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs with the oil and vanilla. Pour into the bowl with the dry ingredients and blend well.
Spoon the batter into muffin tins lined with muffin cups, filling each to the brim. Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean. Cool muffins in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a rack to finish cooling.
♥Enjoy♥
Love your site, and all your down home ideas. youreally inspire me Keep up the good work
Hi Ruthann!
That looks like such an awesome road trip that you had with your sister in law. My sister in law is my very best friend and I look forward to the day when we can do those sorts of things together. Soon, I hope!!!
The gifts for your giveaway are soooo beautiful! I never used to be “into” aprons. Since I started blogging and have seen so many lovely ones and read how passionate some people are about them.. it’s really sparked my interest. I actually bought a couple of homemade ones a month or so back at a craft fair. Not nearly as lovely as the two you have.
Anyhow, I think I’ll mosey on over to the forum and see what’s going on over there. :) Thanks again for a wonderful post!
Take care!
Laura
P.S. I’m from a small town in Ontario, Canada!
Such a beautiful giveaway and post. Gonna click over to the forum and check it out. Happy Spring
Ruth Ann,
I do not remember how I found your blog, but I have enjoyed it since I did. I really do appreciate that so many times you are pointing us to Christ. A Christ filled life cannot be beat and no much heartache can be avoided when you live according to His principles. Thanks for a glimpse into your life and home and I look forward to each visit.
Jennie
Hi Ruthie,
I’m from Missouri too. I’ve lived in the same small town outside of Kansas City for 55 years.
What a great giveaway! I do cupcake and dessert paintings, so that little cupcake apron really caught my attention. I’m headed over to sign up!
Hugs,
Catherine
Sorry Ruth Ann, I forgot to say where I live. South Louisiana, Sulphur, La. I also have been to Branson several times and really do love going. There is still more that I would like to see. Love the apron.
Loved going along on your shopping visit. You are right…in Calif, if a man was crossing the street with a rifle…he would have 20 SWAT team members already on top of him!!
Beautiful porch shot…..will be nice in the summer with some southern ice tea!
KAREN EILEEN
Thanks for the chance at the wonderful giveaway!! I love your blog! I am from Pittsburgh PA. I am a second grade teacher. I love to bake. My children and I are gluten free, so I bake all of our bread, pizza, cookies… Thanks again! Kim

Hi Ruthann,
So enjoyed the visit, the milk glass rooster is adorable, haven’t seen this one before, but would dearly love to have one. The idea of writing on the stair boards I do love and will try and figure out how to do. Great idea. Thanks for sharing your trip with us ,sounds like you both had a great time..
Blessings,
Sue
Hi Ruthie,
First want to say, thank you for all your home inspirations. You have put a joy back into keeping our home. I live in Indiana. We have a cute little spring fed pond in front of our house and another bigger one in the back. Each spring we have a little migration of turtles go from the big pond to the smaller one. It’s fun to watch and you never know where you might see one. Coming home from church yesterday a big snapper was crossing our driveway. I scooted it along so we could get up the drive. Thanks for having your giveaways too. It’s exciting, and fun. I have made 2 chalkboards.
One is on a small red serving tray and the other on a decorative fish.
“I love my family”, and “Wishin I was Fishin” on the other chalkboard. Thanks again for your kind home inspirations Sista!
Oh my gosh! We could have been there at the same time! You should have went on down the road to the scrapbook store is and you could have visited with Lindsey. We live in Springfield and she works down there sometimes. We go to the antique malls in Bolivar frequently and I love Pappy’s! So nice to see it all from your point of view. I would have just loved to have run into you while I was there. I would have given you a big hug! Twyla
Well that was a fun little trip, felt like I was right there with you. Joined your new girl talk. How exciting is that? A lot of work for you no doubt, but very much appreciated!!! Thank you so much. I always am on the lookout for new entries on your blog.
Nancy Jo
I ALWAYS look forward to your e-mails!!!
They make me smile and wish I lived down the lane from you.
I’d call you up and we could have a cup of sweet tea on those beautiful red rockers on your porch!
Love the antique barn. I will have to stop by there some time when I am in the area. I usually drive 54 on my way to Hannibal and like to stop at some of the little shops along the way. I will just have to detour, don’t-cha-know!
I will certainly have to check out your new Girl Talk! It sounds like fun. I may not have alot of helpful hints, but I would love to get ideas and recipes!
Thank you for your encouraging blog.
BTW, the Hoosier at the barn is adorable and the yellow apron fabric is fantastic!
Gidday from New Zealand.
I enjoy reading your blog – off to check out your forum now.
Love Leanne
RuthAnn – I am so excited about the girl talk forum and your give away is fabulous! I love the cupcake fabric and use it often in my sewing projects – it has the cutest cherry co-ordinate and comes in a few different colorways – including robin’s egg blue – delish! I lined a few purses with it and have more on the sewing table waiting for inspiration!
We are just in the midst of planning our spring family get away – touring Lincoln sites this time so it counts as a field trip for the kids, a taste of history for my History lovin’ hubby, and hopefully …. some antique browsing for moi! Maybe we’ll just have to swing through Bolivar … though I think it’s a bit off the trail for this journey! Thanks for sharing your joy with us!
You two are so stinkin’ cute! Love that expression of yours. You can share road trips with us any old time! Great photos and that tearoom in the antique store is such a great idea.
Oh g oodness, those cakes look so good! The lemon one is calling my name. Nothing like fruity desserts to enjoy in the spring and summer. That little town looks like so much fun. Love it! Have a great day. :)
First off, I don’t think that cake was LEGAL! Oh my! YUM!
I’m excited to be entered in the giveaway! Whoohooo!
BUT, my question is, where did you get your skirt? The denim one with the flounce on the bottom? It’s gorgeous!
You are just too much fun for words! Loved hearing about your getaway :), and that giveaway…well, let’s just say that I was thrilled to win your last big giveaway, I know that this winner will love every special gift from you too! :) Now, I’m going to check out the Girl Talk forum! (BTW, I currently live in Holly Springs, NC, near raleigh!)
What a fun day it looks like you had! Enjoying the new look of your blog. So beautiful!! Great work….
I really enjoyed reading about your adventures – that cake looked heavenly! Love those shops and tea places!! So much fun to check out all the things we “need” to bring home…..not too many of those in the Orlando, FL area.
Hey There Ruthann:
I loved your blog and I’m just digging your new website. All of us midwest homemakers here in Michigan say “Thanks” and keep it up. You’re a gem!
Love,
Amy
Ruthann-
You are such a blessing to me!!
I can’t tell you how much your blog has been like a warm hug from an old friend or as comforting as a cup of hot mocha (my drink of choice!!).
I could read your post over and over every day and never get tired of it!
I started a blog a few months ago but then got busy with ‘fundraising’ for my son’s school and time for the blog was nil. Hope to get back into it now that the auction is over (and we made about 40K!!).
However, how can I ever have a site as great as yours?
How much time do you spend on your blog each day/week? I find that after I have read all my favorite blogs I’m either out of time or it’s late and I need to get my ‘beauty-sleep’.
Like you (were), I’m a native Califonian. I have the pleasure of living in Ventura County where we have a lovely mix of country and suburbia. I’d love to have a ranch/farm but the one acre property we have seems to take up so much of my time as it is. One day hope to have a couple of chickens. Though, I seem to do things in ‘ones’…one son (12), one dog (yellow Lab), one cat (Dusty) and of course only one husband! ;-)
Ok now or my families favorite recipe and simplest chicken dinner:
This would go great with the corn casserole Nicole posted today.
Use what ever amount of chicken necessary for your family.
~Stupid Chicken~
Turn oven on to 350-375
Chicken Breasts (bones or tenders or boneless)
Garlic Salt
Pepper
Salt
Potato Flakes
Place chicken in a dish
sprinkle with garlic salt, S&P as your tastes prefer.
sprinkle with potato flakes, enough to cover the chicken.
Place in the oven for 35-45 minutes but not more than 60 min.
Serve with sweet potatoes or corn casserole and green veggie.
It’s not fried chix. but it is comfort food in our house.
Enjoy!
Bless you Ruthann for sharing God’s love with others as well as the many blessings of being a homemaker.
xox,
DonnaRae
Just love your blog and all those cute aprons. I am an apron fan, I like to make my own as I quilt , sew hook rugs, cook .
I have signed up on your forum but I’m having a hard time posting on the forum. I would love to enter your giveaway. Linda from Ontario Canada
Hi Ruthie,
Just wanted to say my friend/sister (in the Lord) told me about your website and I’ve been hooked since. I so look forward to reading everything, it is so uplifting and just makes my day better. There is a great website for recipe’s but I must warn you it becomes addicting. It is Recipezaar.com you can find just about any recipe created. Keep up the good work.
God Bless,
Brenda from Show Low, AZ
OOPS! I forgot to tell ya’ll, the muffins recipe will make about 22-24 muffins. If you like carrot cake, you will ♥love♥ these.
I’m envious of all the commenters that have put in gardens and some that have already harvested some things. My veggie plants are in the kitchen waiting to be planted. I woke up to another snow this morning here in Colorado!
Oohh that cupcake apron is so cute! All of them are! Unfortunately that Etsy store is fresh out!
Looks like you were in antique heaven in that store with all the cute red & white kitchen items. Going to tea houses is a favorite thing to do with my mama & girlfriends. They are getting harder & harder to find in the city I live in.
Thanks for sharing! Uppercase Living would be a good place to find words to put on your stairs in case anyone is wondering.
God bless!
HI RUTHANN I AM FROM LONG ISLAND. LOVE YOUR SITE. SO MUCH FUN.
How Exciting!! Off to peek now.
I enjoyed your red barn antiquing. It reminded me of a red barn shop and restaurant in Townsend, TN, where we went on a trip and stayed in a pioneer cabin in the Smokys. I tried to comment on the forum but I didn’t figure it out, so I hope I can still be in the drawing for those neat prizes!
I’m in Portland, Oregon
I really, really love your website. It’s cute, fun, informative and uplifting. I’m always anxious for your next post—so thank you very much for always brightening my day.
Have a wonderful week!!
Ruthie – I really love your site…it’s so warm and inviting! And your decorating style…WOW…you’re so creative and talented!
Thanks for sharing your trip with us…the pics were beautiful!
Hugz,

Sista Ruthann,
Isn’t being a homemaker the best job in the whole, wide world….so many opportunities, challenges, rewards….
A Bible verse that has meant so much to my husband and me is First Peter 5:7…”Casting all your care upon HIm; for He careth for you”…
We live on a farm and wouldn’t change our location for anyplace other than Heaven….
Amy sent me a couple of your links….I’m really enjoying looking at them…
Love and blessings to you from your Southern Sista….Betty
Oh Wowzers! you have the best adventures….I wish we had a “Pappy’s Antiques & Cakery” up here where we live…(Washington).
I am heading out this Wednesday for some “Junktiquing” with a gal~pal to find some goodies for our vintage trailers. Wish us luck!.
hugz.
What a great post! I would have loved to have visited that antique barn and love that rooster you got! I’m so excited about your forum. I’ve already checked it out but I need to check it out some more! That cutie patootie cupcake has my name all over it. LOL!! Thank you for another wonderful sweet as pie post!
Hello Aunt Ruthie!!! I was turned on to your site by a friend I hope you don’t mind but I’ve been peekin’ and pokin’ around while you were away. I love it! Everything from the recipes to the reviews. Thanks for sharing with us. I signed up to get updates.
So much fun!
I loved the photos of the antique mall/store. That red/white kitchen cupboard is crying to me.
Little county seat towns are so Me! Ours is about 10 miles away and while I’ll visit the “big city”, little towns are where I’ll live (after I get too old to live on the farm.)
A small request, dear… could you take a photo of your white hand pump you have in your kitchen. I could only see a small part of it in the photo of you & your apron and I want to replicate it for my farmhouse kitchen.
Pretty please with sugar & strawberries on it. :o)
I always leave your site with a huge smile and a renewed calling to be a Christian Prairie Farmwife. Thank you for letting us share your life a little bit.
Big Country Hugs~

Oh how I wish you were my neighbor!!! I would so love those road trips you go on! I just wanted to say that I love the new sistahood…having been the only girl in a family with three boys I sure do appreciate the sentiment behind your venture! I am a SAHM and really love the advice and input from like minded people. Thank you for this blessing, it is such a treasure.
Howdy there Auntie Ruth~
Very nice! I love a good chicken salad!
Looks like a fun day but…….keep away from the guy with the riffle!
I love old barns too and the chaddy in the antique shop!
Is this how I enter to win the giveaway? Cute aprons…..and I love the red rockers on your porch!
Blessings,
Georgiann momma to 6 kiddos and 1 great hubby!
This site is fabulous. Reminds me of my Maw-maw in this tiny little community where she once lived, and where I live now. She always wore a cotton dress, an apron, and wore a kerchief on her hair. In winter she added thick cotton stockings and a sweater.
She made the best chicken&dumplings in the world. I like my dumplings a little bit chewy, with lots of “juice” to crumble cornbread into.
These comments make me want to go make me an apron and wear it!!
I just love reading your website! I love seeing your house too. A quick recipe when company stops by is Paula Deens peach cobbler. So easy and delicious! Ya’ll have got to try it. I am from Louisville, KY
Ciao aunt Ruthie!!!! I really enjoy your website, adventures, and all your post. I live right now in Aviano Italy, so is wondenful see beautiful places in the states. Also, I love your house. Thanks for sharing, Xiomara, Aviano Italy
My oh my, what a wonderful place to visit. Seeing your wonderful photos is the next best thing. I love the cupcake apron. I clicked on the link, but didn’t see any aprons. One of the comments above says they are all out of them. I can see why. It is super darling.
I’m enjoying your beautiful blog.
Charlotte
I love your website and love the aprons and would love to have gone shopping in those antique stores. O well I can dream about it.

My heart is near to burstin, thinkin about all the good people in the world when things seem so bleak at times. I love ya all!! God Bless!
Hi Ruthann, I just wanted to let you know I love your site, I also want you to know I would love be in the country right now… but I Have a tip to make country jar that look so adoreable and people think I spend alot of money. 1st you buy a tall or short vase that you can put a cork in. or not, you can found these at a goodwill or second shop, Then put glue on the glass bottle and the wrap twine around the bottle, You can go all the way to the top or half way . Then put your spring flowers in it. I love the look . I will send you a picture .. Have Wonderful Day?? This is my best verse JOHN 3:16
Sure wish that antique place was closer to where I live! Heavens to Betsy, that looks like an awesome place!
Hey, Lov your blog. Can’t you get your hands on the recipes for that delicious cake . My favorite tip is instead of buying fabric softener sheets , I mix 1 cup of liquid fabric softener in a 2 quart jar of water and cut a kitchen sponge in 4 pieces.put the sponges in the water and when you need one just squeeze it out slightly and throw in the dryer. THis saves tons of money so you can buy those cute roosters. keep it up girl you are doing a great job.p.s. pray for our country, we are so headed down the wrong road .
Hi! Thank you for all of your hard work on your Sugar Pie Farmhouse! You are very encouraging and creative. I am from Las Cruces, NM. When my husband and I got married (1993) we went to Eureka Springs, AK for our honeymoon. What a quaint, lovely place; I would like to live there!
Have a nice day!

Loved this entire post!!!! Bolivar reminds me of my hometown of Mena, Arkansas, which sadly was heavily damaged in a tornado a few weeks ago. I now live in Texas but Arkansas is still “home.” One of these days I’m gonna move back to those hills!!! Thank you, Ruth Ann, for sharing your life with us on this beautiful site. God Bless You!!!!
Sure love this site, the daily news is depressing and you have reminded me of a kinder, gentler world. Please leep up the good work!
Blessings
Hi Ruthie…

Wonderful post! LOVE the aprons! Love antique stores! How fun you must have had with your sister-in-law. :)
Ooops, don’t think my first comment saved.
Love the post–LOVE the aprons–Love antique shops! You must have a had a great time with your Sister-in-law. :0)
Ooops, it did post, but I’m not “Anon”; I’m Zebu.
You can count it as just one post, though. ;)
I live in Montana. It’s a great state. I would love to visit the south. I have been blessed to visit the Great Smokey Mountains (what a treat!), along with W. Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, and several others. Love to travel!
One of my favorite recipes is Hillbilly Spaghetti Pie! I made it last night for the third time, and my family loves it! Thanks!
My garden is started with many herbs both for cooking and for healing, veggies, and now some flower bulbs that we are waiting to plant.
Does anyone know of a cure for knats (tiny flies)? They actually come out of the soil and propagate very quickly. I use organic soil but have found them in my house plants as well. They (their larvae) also seem to destroy the root system of the seedlings…so, the war is on, and I need to get rid of them!
One idea for staying healthy are Green Smoothies—Yum! Yum! They’re easy to make, and you can vary the recipe as needed.
Kale
Coconut oil
Oranges
Apples
Spirulina
Quinary
Flax seed meal
Ice
Frozen bananas (grapes, peaches)
Soy milk (I like vanilla)
Organic plain yogurt
Blend all in a blender and enjoy!
One beauty secret that I have found is coconut oil. I use it as a face moisturizer, to calm frizz, and as a leg moisturizer after I shave.
I have always broken out on my face with any type of oil, but this doesn’t cause any problems. I by organic extra virgin. Try it!
Last night I made tapioca pudding (follow the recipe on the box). I had some left-over sweetened condensed milk so substituted that for a cup of the milk and all of the sugar. It was divine! The sweetened condensed milk gave it its own unique flavor. The pudding turns out thicker than normal, so I added some nice cold milk to the hot pudding in the individual pudding dishes. Mmmmm, mmmmm, good! It was a hit!
A favorite saying as of late:
“God is in control of even the worst circumstances”
I believe I got it from Mrs. G at http://www.pastoralsymphonyfarm.blogspot.com
One great book that I’ve read and am currently revisiting is “Total Money Makeover” by Christian author Dave Ramsey. In these economic times, we NEED to get out of debt! ;)
Another favorite saying: (I wish I could remember which blog I found it on. If it’s your saying, let me know, and I’ll give you credit!)
“Staying quiet and letting God take care of tough or sticky circumstances is the best way. He is so very effective at turning circumstances into glorious things, and often when we interfere, we make things messier. John Piper says “In every situation God is doing 1000 different things that we cannot see and we do not know.”
This scripture got me through a hugely difficult time. It is now laminated and on my wall.
“Trust in the Lord with all thy heart; lean not unto thy own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge them, and He shall direct thy paths”
Aunt Ruthie,
UH OH!!! I thought this WAS the forum to post in for the giveaway. Do I need to transfer all of my posts over there?

Jeb is a hoot!!!
Hey Sugar
I love the photo of Old Jeb as much as all the rest ,I love coming by here .I always feel so much better after I have had my little visit.
It’s as if I can just be me and no one will laugh at my southern twangy drawl. Well my unique way of speaking. THANK YOU for a” comfort zone” in a world that does not always appreciate the wisdom and talents of farm girls .I’m still drooling over those sweet aprons so I’ll drop in again soon to see what else you’ve been up to. Loved the Picture tour .Antique shopping is so much more fun when you have your friends along.
Blessings of joy to you .
You have the coolest stores there! Love all the giveaways. When your blog loads the world gets brighter! Such a joy to read your posts. You are one clever, blessed lady. xx
Hello sistas! Just wanted to let you know this is not the forum…go to the top of the page and click on Girl-Talk Forums…it will take you to another page where you need to register in order to join in. Come on sista, we want to hear what you have to say!

I love your site! It is great ~ It is such fun when I see that you have a new post to share with us all! Keep it up! Kathy
What a beautiful site! And I can’t wait to try both buttermilk pie recipes. My tip for saving money on buying buttermilk is to make my own WITH BUTTERMILK. Add 6 oz. buttermilk (“cultured” and not out of date) to a clean qt. jar. Fill up jar with milk (I use 2%). Put on lid and gently shake to mix. Leave on counter for 24 hours. It should thicken and works great for cooking pancakes, etc.
Try it!
Hi girls! I would love to share my favorite bible verse that I have actually on the wall in my living room with everyone…
“For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also.” Matthew 6:21. Blessings! suzie
