When wild gusts of wind rattles the screens and heavy, gray, storm-clouds fill the sky with thunder rumbling in the distance that’s the perfect time to make a batch of Warm & Cozy Hot Spiced Cider. There’s nothing cozier than to be safe at home, with a crock pot of hot cider simmering, on a cold, blustery, day! What a privilege to be a homemaker! To make warm and cheerful the place that we call home! To bless our loved ones with an atmosphere of comfort and tender loving care.
This is also such a wonderful hot beverage to make when you have guests coming over! It’s so easy because you make it in your crock pot/ slow cooker. Once you prepare it, guests can just help themselves! I just leave a ladle resting on a dish with mugs nearby so family and friends can make themselves at home!
Gather some whole cloves and cinnamon sticks and put them in a tea or spice infuser (I love the one I have because it’s elongated. You can find it here on the affiliate link!
Pour a gallon of cider to a slow cooker, add some brown sugar and the spices…
Add let it simmer and fill your home and tummy with the most delicious aroma and flavor!!
Warm & Cozy Hot Spiced Cider Recipe
1 gallon apple cider
1 cup brown sugar (or a little more to taste)
1 teaspoon whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
1 orange sliced
Pour apple cider in a crock pot. Add sugar, stir. Put whole cloves and cinnamon in a spice/tea-infuser or a cheesecloth bundle and place in pot. Add orange slices. ( You can also poke the whole cloves in the orange slices and drop the cinnamon sticks in the cider) Simmer covered on high until hot, stirring occasionally. Once steaming hot, remove the spices and lower heat to low to keep warm. Enjoy the taste and aroma throughout the day! Stay cozy!!
This is the best recipe for hot apple cider, thank you for sharing, I made it for our Happy Fall party last weekend, everyone loved it, i had to substitute ground cinnamon as I was out of the stick cinnamon. The oranges are what really made it.
I am going to try your oatmeal cookie recipe real soon,
You are such a blessing.
Sue
Oh Yummy! Gonna make this for my little chicks this weekend
This sounds delicious!
Perfect for a chilly fall day!
Ooooooo, perfectly spicy and yummy for an Autumn or Winter day (or evening). When my Mom would make this on Halloween evening for the grand-kids she called it witches brew. The grand-kids loved it! Memories. Thank you for your recipe.
Please, DONT EVER STOP THIS BLOG!!! thank you so much for it. What a gem and blessing it was to find ♥️
Hi Ruthie,
What exactly is Apple Cider ? As in England it is a alcoholic drink. Could you make it in a smaller size ? As I have never had this drink but it does sound nice.
Many thanks Helen
Thanks for the recipe. I cannot wait to make this for family and friends this fall. Right now it is near 80 degrees here in our part of Tennessee. Hopefully cooler temps are coming before long. Love your blog and always look forward to seeing a new one.
Hi Ruthie!! This hot spiced cider sounds absolutely heavenly!! I usually just “nuke” my mug of cider, then sprinkle it with ground cinnamon and top it with whipped cream. It is good, but yours sounds even better! Loving how it will fill the house with the wonderful aroma, too–that’s half the joy! I really love your posts or blogs, or whatever they’re called. You celebrate the family home and the homemaker, and it feels so “right” and just fills me with pride and happiness. Thank you!!!
This sounds lovely! I think we’ll be trying it this weekend
Oh yummy, Aunt Ruthie!!! I’ve gotta try this as soon as I can get my hands on some apple cider. Can’t wait for the delicious smell in my home, and the delicious taste of a warm, cozy drink. Thank you so much. Only me in the home now, so I think I’ll try half of the recipe.
Thank you Aunt Ruthie for all of your lovely recipes and seasonal home decorating ideas!
Helen, in the US apple cider isn’t alcoholic, it’s more like a tangy apple juice. The closest tasting product I have found in the UK is Copella cloudy apple juice.
This is so funny! I am jealous. We are still in the upper 90’s, craving cold drinks still!
Thank you for being such a positive inspiration. You are the best!
Hi Aunt Ruth!
I’m looking for the blog that you made little tiny pies, or was it tarts? With maybe your sister-in-law? The one who brings her own recipes when she visits?…
I’d like to make those for my daughter’s 2nd birthday this week, and I can’t find the page anymore.
Would you maybe make a drop-down list of Recipes with pictures, under the home cooking button,of all the recipes that you have posted on your site? They all look so so yummy!!
I do like the “coffee and explore” button! That’s sooo fun! I didnt see the cute little pies though. They were made with jam on round little crusts? Good gravy, maybe I can figure it out!. They looked so cute and delicious!!!
Hi Ruthie, could you use Splenda in the place of the sugar in this recipe. I am a diabetic and cannot have the sugar. Your recipe sounds delicious.
Thanks in advance!
Patty
I work at a museum in Northwestern Oklahoma. We had a Cowboy Christmas last year and again this year. I made this for our Open house and it was such a hit. Everyone wanted the recipe. I just love this site. and Ruthie.
