Living in the Ozarks they say if you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes! Lol! Well, one thing’s for sure, we always get a few snow days each winter and that’s a reason to celebrate! Not only is it beautiful, with the hills looking like God sifted powdered sugar over the hills and valleys, but it’s a perfect time to make snow ice cream!
The recipe I’m sharing with you today is from my mother-in-law Ruth. It’s got to be over 40 years old! Mama Ruth raised her 4 kids up in the mountains of Idyllwild, California. She was an amazing cook and homemaker. Ruth always had candles glowing, a yummy supper cooking on the old-fashioned cast-iron-style electric stove and a blazing fire to get toasty by when friends and family came in from the cold. When my hubby and I were dating, his mama would invite me to stay at the big old cabin for the weekend. If it snowed we could always count on a fresh batch of delicious snow ice cream to enjoy by the crackling fire.
Mama Ruth’s recipe is as easy as 1.2.3!
You just need three ingredients.
Snow, Sweetened Condensed Milk, & Vanilla.
Gather 10 cups of fresh, clean snow
Pour in the can of Sweetened Condensed Milk
and 1 teaspoon of Vanilla.
Mix it up well. That’s it!
Scoop it into a bowl or dessert cups and eat right away.
To make it even more festive add some sprinkles!
Sprinkles make everything more fun!
While you’re at it…why not add a candle!
This is a Snow Day celebration by golly!
Talk about making fun memories for your kids or grandkids!
What kid doesn’t love to blow out a candle?
Have them make a snow-wish!
For even more fun…
Take the tune of the
“Happy Birthday” song and
sing these words instead;
“Happy Snow-Day Hooray!
Happy Snow-Day Hooray!
Happy Snow-Day Hooray!
Happy Snow-Day Hooray!”
Enjoy this most scrumptious-dilly-umptious dessert!

I never tried making it with condensed milk..I have used whole milk very chilled whole milk.. But your recipe looks just as delish ..
Looks so fun. My mother used to make it with beaten eggs…. before we knew that was risky. Yours looks so cold and delicious
Looks wonderful, we had our first big snow last night, think I will try this! Blessings,
Sue
Hmmm, I live on a mountain in North Idaho so maybe I should invest in a Snow Ice Cream Truck!
We just polished off a bowl of snowcream in our house today! Soooo good! In the southeastern piedmont a good snow for snowcream can be difficult to come by. Growing up, we used evaporated milk, sugar and vanilla. Today I had no evap. milk but did have a can of sweetened condensed. Yum!
