Here I am again for another installment of Have You Heard?! This time I’m sharing my favorite Hallmark series, When Calls the Heart! I actually recently discovered it and my hubby and I are really enjoying it! Yes, I said my hubby! He loves it too! It has the same wholesome values and virtues of Litte House on The Prairie and the reason is it’s produced by Michael Landon’s son Michael Landon Jr.!
This Canadian-American drama is based on the novel When Calls The Heart, and the Canadian West series, authored by Christian writer, Janette Oke. The story is set in 1910 in a western Canadian frontier town called Hope Valley. Each episode is filled with dramatic scenes of faith, hope, and love.
My hubby and I watch it on Netflix but you can also get the series here. So far there are 5 seasons and 44 episodes.
There’s even a devotional book that reflects the life lessons of Hope Valley.
And if you become a fan there’s a When Calls the Heart Cookbook too!
Well, if you’re a fan of Little House on the Praire, I think you’re going to love this series! Let me know if you watch it already!
I’m always happy to see good, wholesome shows that are still being produced!

I love your blog… so inspirational in so many ways! I was wondering where you got your canisters in your baking center? (the ones with the red lids) I know you have a ‘store’ on amazon but I can’t seem to find it… I’d love to find those, thanks!!!
Oh yes, I’ve watched it on the Hallmark Channel from the very beginning.
Oh I love this show! You are both in for a great time! It reminds me a lot of another show I love from the late 90s called Christy. Have you seen the movie Love Comes Softly, also by Janette Oke? Another lovely story.
Always always always enjoy your posts Aunt Ruthie! Thank you. : o )
My 12 year old watches it all the time. She borrows the dvds from the library. I call it a Christian soap opera….lol.

The book set by Janette Oke was actually a gift from my grandmother when I was a teenager and is still a favorite of mine. I was really excited when the TV series came out and have watched it from the beginning. It is really nice to have something wholesome to watch these days.
Love this series! It’s so refreshing to watch!

After you finish When Calls The Heart watch the Christy TV series based on the book by Catherine e Marshall packed full of the same kind of positive faith filled and educational plots. I don’t think it is on Netflix but you can order the series on Amazon You won’t be disappointed.

We are total “Hearties” over here, too! I love all of the old fashioned goodness and family-friendly values. My daughter looks forward to it all week. Waiting for season 5 to start again was downright painful… Felt like foorrrrevvver. Haha! ;) We are excited to watch the wedding tonight…(since we watch it on Amazon, we get it a day late). Hooray for Hallmark! :D
I love this show, but have only been able to watch the first 3 seasons. Are all 5 seasons on Netflix? Another one that I love is Heartland another Canadian series and for the family.

I watched the original pilot before Christmas. Need to spend a few evenings watching the rest of the set.
My husband and I have been watching this since the first season it was released and we love it. We got our daughter and her husband hooked on it too! We are on the edge of our seats just waiting for the Christmas special and for season 6. We absolutely love the wholesome Christian values that are instilled throughout each series, something that we all could use and should be brought back.
