My Vintage, Farmy Apron Top!

APRON TOP

Well, imagine this Sugar Pies! I’m wearing two vintage aprons as my top! I bought this at an antique event and love it to bits! Some cute gal had the fun idea of sewing two aprons together to make a top and I was the happy gal that bought it! It couldn’t be more perfect for me since I love red and white gingham and old aprons… so much I wanna marry ’em! Lol!  Now, this may not be for everyone, but it’s kinda fun to wear when you go junkin’ with your gal-pals! I’m not a seamstress but I want to show you how it’s put together in case you want to make one for yourself!

APRON 2

As you can see as I turn around that this is a completely different apron. The apron ties were used as straps and they criss-cross in the back.

Here’s the side view. The apron in the back is slightly longer than the front, which I actually like and there are slits on the sides for a comfortable flowy feel.  The fabric for both aprons are close in color but not a perfect match…which again just adds to the whole vintage look.

I’m just wearing a white t-shirt underneath paired with some ripped jeans… perfect for a sunny summer day!

apron 7

I love that this apron is sun-faded a bit, evidence I’m sure from hanging on the laundry line on warm, golden days of summer. I can imagine Mama’s aprons fluttering and billowing in the breeze along with sweet little baby-girl cotton dresses and Papa’s white shirts and socks.

If this apron could talk it would tell stories of  love and comfort. It would share memories of   Gingersnap cookies and Pumpkin Pies in the fall and of serving steaming Hot Cocoa and Sugar Cookies to bright-eyed children at Christmastime. It would speak of creamy mashed potatoes, pot-roast and hearty soups on snowy days. And how it comforted little ones, when they scraped their knees, by softly wiping away their tears as mother whispered “there, there dear”. And how on hot summer days Mama would flap it to shoo the flies away from the pies in the window sill, carry eggs in from the chicken coop and vegetables from the garden. An old apron and love…what could be more endearing?

“She watches carefully all that goes on throughout her household and is never lazy. 28 Her children stand and bless her; so does her husband. He praises her with these words: 29 “There are many fine women in the world, but you are the best of them all!” – Proverbs 31:27-29

A sweet added feature are these tabs on the back, an extension of the straps…a button on each one would be even cuter! I just might have to add those!

APRON 33

Two old aprons and love from my heart to yours!

Keep your home fires burning dear Sugar Pie Sisters!

Keep doing your best in taking good care of your family

and creating a place they love to come home to…

it’s a cold world out there, if we don’t do it who will?

You dear maker-of-home are irreplaceable and loved!

Thank you so much for coming over!

I’d love to know if you wear aprons

or if you have any endearing memories

of your mother or grandmother wearing them!

Do share Sugar Pie!

God bless your darlin’ heart!

Chatting Over the Fence!

Written by Aunt Ruthie on July 18th, 2017

back fence chat

Hey Sugar Pie Sweeties! You know, back in the good ol’ days  the best chats with friends was over the backyard fence. It was the perfect time to take a break from hanging up the laundry or watering the garden to catch up on family happenings. Well, it’s been awhile since I shared family news so I thought it was high time that I got y’all caught up on my growing family! We’ve got a new baby you haven’t met yet! If you’re a newbie here, first of all, welcome!! I’m so happy you stopped by! I hope you feel right at home here! Let me introduce you to my family!

dusty fam

This is my firstborn, Dusty with my daughter-in-love Kimmy and my adorbs grand-boys Sawyer (2) Kade (6) and Zealand (4)…AND our newest little sweet pea Ember Joy! What a wonderful surprise it was on the day of her birth to find out that Kimmy and Dusty were having a girl!! We are over-the-moon thrilled! They chose not to find out the gender until the birth day! Of course with three boys they were hoping for a girl but of course would have been very happy with another boy. Sweet Ember Joy has red hair to match her name too! Her future boyfriend is going to have to get approval from all her brothers and Papa…I feel sorry for him!! LOL!  She’s just beautiful! We are so thankful mama and baby are healthy! Their home is one rambunctious house full of happy kids!

My adorable grandkids, Johnny (7) and Polly (4) are such happy blessings in our family too! Ashley and Glen are making such wonderful memories with their little ones. That’s easy to do here in Branson, Missouri! We’ve got lakes, parks, live music shows and Silver Dollar City which is an amazing 1880’s Theme park. Ashley is an artist so her kids have become quite creative with her guidance and encouragement.  Their house is also one happy and fun home!

jj tiffy

My son JJ and daughter-in-love Tiffany just celebrated their sweet Olive Rose’s 1st birthday! She is so adorable and has such a sweet, temperament! And, Little Olive is also going to have a baby sister soon in just a few weeks! We can’t wait!! Yay!!! Tiffany is a Math teacher but will now be able to stay home to raise her baby girls. I love watching J.J. and Tiffany nurture and care for baby Olive. It makes my heart swell with joy to see the love they have for their little family. So once this new sweet baby girl is born I will have 4 grand-boys and 4 grand-girls! Praising the Lord right now!

summer grad

My baby girl Summer Rose has grown up way too fast! She recently graduated High School and will be heading off to College this fall. What?? It’s hard to believe! It seems like she was in kindergarten last week! I love this picture of her siblings holding her on graduation day. It’s funny to think about how they helped rock her, feed her, play with her, take her for rides in the stroller, and carry out her dirty diapers to the garbage can…something they still tease her about! Lol! We are so proud of that girl! She’s compassionate, kind, funny, beautiful and super smart (4.1 GPA…I didn’t even know that was a thing! She’ didn’t get it from me FYI Lol!)

the family winans

This year my wonderful hubby and I celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary! Wowza! How did that happen? I thought I was 39? Lol! Looking back in time I remember how Gary and I prayed for three years to be able to conceive a child. Struggling with infertility was extremely difficult because the thing I wanted most in life was to be a mother. I remember crying at Pampers commercials. My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. My heart ached for a baby to hold in my arms. Well, as you can see God answered our prayers by blessing us with 4 children and our family continues to grow! God is so good. We only need to be patient, trust Him,  have faith and delight in the Lord and as the scripture says… He will give us the desires of our heart. (Psalm 37:4)

I am truly so thankful for my family. Thankful that they all love the Lord and are healthy and happy. But please understand that although we are blessed we have not been without struggles…disappointments, setbacks, discouragements, health issues and financial difficulties. Everyone faces challenges, but we serve a mighty God who is right by our side through the journey. He is faithful and promises to help us. God is always at work for you and I behind the scenes. He’s An On-Time God, Yes He is…just like the old song goes! Amen sistah! Preach.

Well, Sugar Pie Sister, Here are some posts that you may like that bring to light the goodness of our Lord through the years of my family events:
