Greetings to all of my Sugar Pie Sistas! I am writing to you from my farmhouse in the Ozarks where the sun is shining bright, the wind is whistlin’ a Mayberry tune, the cows are mooin’ in the clover, and the townsfolk are tipping their hats and waving a friendly “howdy neighbor!”. Life is good in the Southern Midwest!
In my last post I wrote part 2 of my Q and A time, and I was going to post part 3 this week, but then I realized that I am leaving in just a few days for Californy for a 2 1/2 week visit and I did not want to miss out on writing a Father’s Day Tribute, so I am going to wait on Part 3 of the Q and A until I return from my trip.
This post is all about great dads and the wonderful legacy of faithfulness and love that they pass down to their children and their children’s children.
“Children are a gift from the Lord; babies are a reward.”
Proverbs 127:3
Here I am, just a wee little babe in my daddy’s arms! He got a girlie-girl after two rough and tumble boys!
My dad is one of those great dads! He is a model of faithfulness to his family. He went to work every day and provided well for his wife and children. He built things…..
From my butter-yellow playhouse with gingerbread trim… to Jet Aircraft’s and Missiles for the United States Government…that is a wide range of talent!! He also served our country in the Army during W.W.II…I am so very proud of him!
Wow! My dad designed that!!!!!
Aunt Ruthie is on the right…the little lady in pearls! I’m seated with my brothers Donny and David and sister Sherry…Miss Glamarella Junk!)
My dad made us laugh (and still does) with his dry sense of humor and goes out of his way to make us feel special. In our home, he always made pancakes every Saturday and Sunday morning.
Just a few days ago my mom and dad celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary. He has always treated my mom with love, respect and appreciation…bringing her a cup of coffee in bed every morning…and you should see the jewelry he designs for her! Talk about bling-bling! Most importantly for me, he brought us to church every Sunday, where I learned about how much my Heavenly Father loved me. I came to accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour…the best and most important decision I have ever made in my entire life!!!! I’ll always cherish the times I saw him reading the Bible.
He is a loving Grandpa too!
Aunt Ruthie, Dad, Sherry
And at age 85 he is still going strong (and still building things).
Happy Father’s Day Dad! Your baby girl loves you!
There is one more great daddy I want to honor!
The daddy of my many wonderful children!
What makes a great Dad?
Here I am on the way to the hospital to have baby number #3…J.J.! My hubby of 30 years ( soon to be 31 on June 3) is a great dad!
A Great Dad…cherishes his children…and tells them “I am so glad I get to be your daddy!”
(baby J.J. business degree major in College)
A Great Dad…realizes that a baby, so fresh from heaven, is a miracle and a precious gift of God.
(Dusty…web site designer and graphic artist)
A Great Dad….takes every opportunity to spend time having fun with his kids.
A Great Dad…tells his kids how much joy they bring to our home.
(Ashley, amazing Hair Stylist)
A Great Dad…listens intently to what his baby girl has to say, and then kisses her face all over.
A Great Dad…makes his children feel safe…gives his children a sense of belonging. He wears red Christmas pajama’s without too much of a fuss. He helps to make happy family memories.
A Great Dad…teaches his children how to pray and to have faith in God.
(Pops and the J.J.)
A Great Dad…dances and sings to the top of his lungs with his kids, just to make a happy memory.
(J.J. and his Papa)
A Great Dad….wears matching Snoopy T-Shirts to let his kids know they belong together.
(Dusty and Dad)
A Great Dad… delights in his kids and knows that acting silly is part of developing a great sense of humor.
A Great Dad….can’t wait to get home from work to hug is family…He tells each one “I missed you so much today! I was crying my head off for you!”
(Miss Ashley and her daddy)
A Great Dad…protects his children and constantly lets them know what a blessing they are.
(Mr. J.J. and daddy)
A Great Dad…tells his kids, “I am so proud of you, I’m about to bust my buttons!” He is an encourager and the best cheerleader.
A Great Dad….models, for his children, how to be a loving husband by showing affection, appreciation, kindness and respect. He tells his kids “Don’t we have a pretty mama…aren’t we glad mama made a good dinner…don’t we have a wonderful mama!”
Ephesians 5:25-28 (The Message)
Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives. They’re really doing themselves a favor—since they’re already “one” in marriage.
( Miss Summer Rose and her Papa)
A Great Dad…would rather be with his family more than anyone else in the whole wide world.
A Great Dad…spends time with his kids and takes advantage of teachable moments.
A Great Dad…guides his children down the right path.
A Great Dad…doesn’t mind becoming a human toboggan for a family photo….
And again when the family grows…
And when two more kids are added to the family!
(prom night for Ashley)
A Great Dad …shows his daughter what a gentleman looks like so she will recognize one when she is looking for a life-mate.
A Great Dad….laughs and cries at the same time when giving his daughter’s hand away in marriage (to a fine gentleman, our new son Glen).
A Great Dad…talks to his kids about important things in life like responsibility, honor, purity, compassion, making good choices and decisions for a good life…the importance of education…keeping a good attitude…keeping promises…being thankful…finding the right mate…how to succeed in life… seeking after the heart of God and keeping Him top priority in life…..he tells them about the blessings that will follow those who obey God’s Word.
Deuteronomy 6:6-9 (The Message)
Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.
A Great Dad…prays a blessing over his children.
Numbers 6:24-26 (New Living Translation)
May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.
A Great Dad….teaches his boys to become honorable, God Fearing men.
(Disneyland)
A Great Dad…makes his kids laugh every chance he gets.
A Great Dad….tries to act “cool”.
(papa and Summer at Disneyland)
A Great Dad…gives piggy-back rides.
(Dusty’s Wedding Day…his marriage to our new daughter Kimmy)
A Great Dad…encourages, supports and celebrates the big (and little) moments in his kid’s life.
A Great Dad…treasures his family. He is a hero. His life scripture is…
As for me and my house we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15
A great Dad, who trusts, obeys and loves God with all of his heart, is a blessed dad. Happy Father’s Day to my hero, my husband, father of my many wonderful children! I love you!
Proverbs 15:6 (The Message)
The lives of God-loyal people flourish…Not everyone gets to grow up with a loving Daddy, but the good news is everyone has a loving Heavenly Father…who loves us more than we can imagine…who knit us together in our mother’s womb…who knows and loves and created every inch of us.

Thank you for such an inspiring post. It is my husbands first Father’s Day and I am going out of my way to make it extra-special for him. I wrote him a letter of all the things I appreciate in him as a husband and a father, but I am adding a few of the things you mentioned as well. Your post was an inspiration, as usual! Thank you.
What a wonderful tribute to dads and husbands. Thank you for another truly inspirational message. Have a great trip!
Too sweet, Aunt Ruthie! I loved looking at all of your family photographs. Has anyone ever told you that Summer Rose looks just like you did when you were a little girl? ‘Cause she does! Have a blessed trip!
Such a beautiful and inspirational post on fathers. I love how you always tie in scripture with your posts. :) And thank you so much for all of your sweet comments on my blog. I can’t believe you had a company called Huckleberry Pie! How funny is that? I really think we DO love the same things… I am just tickled pink with everything on your blog! You are most certainly (With my Anne of Green Gables vocabulary, haha) a kindred spirit! :)
Oh my goodness, I love that red and white gingham sundress, too… It was in the Victoria’s Secret 2008 catalog…and now I can’t find it on their site anymore. I am kicking myself for not getting it when I saw it. :( Oh well, I plan on keeping a hawk’s eye out on eBay in case anyone decides to sell one. ;)
I saw the picture of your son with his promotion certificate… that doesn’t happen to be Cornerstone Christian School in Wildomar, does it? Enjoy your time in California! I was just out there for a visit a few weeks ago. ;)
Take care and travel safely!
Blessings,
Melissa

God knew back then that He was going to use you to help other women find their full potential in Him. How awesome is that!!! I so adore you and what you are doing !!!!!

Thank you for such a heart warming post about the awesome Dads in your life. Have a safe and fun vacation. Madeline
Thank you for sharing the gorgeous photos. How I wish every child could have a father like your children have. It would make all the difference. By the way,I’ll celebrate my 30th this year too!
Once again your post just blew me away with how wonderful your outlook on life is and how you cherish those men who have blessed your life. Hope you have a great vacation! You are a blessing to us all! Thanks for the terrific post on fatherhood!
Aunt Ruthie
Thank you for taking the time to write and create the most wonderful Father’s day tribute and posting. I was so blown away by everything you wrote. You see I was abused by my father and so I grew up not trusting men, not having a father figure in my life and not fully understanding that there are real honorable men out there. Not until I met my second husband did I see God’s plan and did I see what a true Father could be. My husband took my daughter into his life and has become her True Real Dad. God has blessed us both with an amazing man in our lives. He truly is the father you describe in your post and although I do not have a happy memory of having a Daddy like that in my life, I praise the Lord each and every day that my daughter does.
Thank you for sharing your heart and your special spirit with us. You will never know the impact that you have on so many of us.
Blessings to you and your family,
Mimi
I loved this post! I really enjoyed seeing all the family pics…from when you were young to once you had your own family! :) A Godly father is such a wonderful thing to have! I am blessed to have one and to have married a wonderful man who is a sweet father to our children! :)
In the picture of you with your family when you are young….it is black and white and one of all of you…..you look just like Summer in that pic!
You have a beautiful family! Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your wonderful trip to California! :)
That was a beautiful post about your father and your wonderful hubby. I wish that every child could have a father like you and I had and also great husbands like we have, my hubby is the greatest father and hubby I could have asked for. Once again you have posted a wonderful article, fatherhood to me is just as important as motherhood. I love visiting you and I will talk to you soon.
I love this post! When you were little, you were so precious!! Why would I expect anything else?!?! ;o) I love that you wore little pearls…they are my all-time favorite, and I cannot wait to put some on my little Miss Amelia Kate. I loved that you posted so many of y’all’s family pictures, both you growing up and your children. A family blessed…it’s easy to see! (I’ve been trying to think of something else to get my husband for Father’s Day…”Quiet Strength”…perfect!)
Oh Ruthie what a wonderful tribute to your wonderful husband!! Fathers have such a huge impact on our children and how they turn out in life, and especially in our children’s spiritual life. Your family is truly blessed to have such an amazing hands-on, God honoring husband and father. I’m sure you will all make his Father’s Day memorable.
Blessings,
Linda
P.S. It’s uncanny how much your daughters look like you, especially as a child. Wow!
Hello Aunt Ruthie!
What a heart-warming tribute the Dads! Thank you. I recently discovered Sugar Pie Farm House (and the forums!!) and have been waiting patiently for a new entry to read. You surely didn’t disappoint!

Awww what a beautiful post! I too am blessed to be married to a man like yours for almost 33 yers! It gets even better as I am seeing our kids now walking in their dad’s shoes. My heart goes out to all the millions of kids that have never experienced the love of a great father. And it’s so much easier to understand the love of Father God when your daddy modeled that love to you! I’ve been busy and haven’t gotten your little thing in the mail yet…I’ll wait and send it when you get back from your trip. Hope you have a wonderful time!
Blessings!
Patti

Your wonderful dad comments made me cry! It reminded me of how sweet and wonderful my dad is and gave me great idea’s on how to honor him for Father’s Day. Thank you for being so inpirational and I love the scripture you add to your blog. Thanks!!
Dear Aunt Ruthie !
I visit your homepage EVERY day for inspiration, heart-warming words of wisdom and reminding me to tresure the moments in life. The world we life in is too stressful and we (me too) tend to forget about our Hevenly Father. I love the scriptures you add to your blog and the pictures. I have a wondeful husband of 10 years (in August) and he is also a very devoted daddy to our son(2002) who adores his daddy. Have a wonderful trip ;)
Best wishes from Iceland,
Ransy.
Ruthie’
I think this was your best post yet! It really touched me. I loved the photo of your dad holding you, your playhouse, and your childhood family photo (how appropriately of you to be wearing your signature pearls), but my favorite picture is the one of your husband praying over your son. I was holding back the tears on that one. Have a wonderful vacation.
Pamela (from your homestate)
What a wonder Father’s Day tribute!
I gave your blog “One Lovely Blog Award” today over at my blog.
I found your blog last week for the first time. Beautiful father’s day entry. What a loving family you all are together.
That made me cry!
Wow, what a wonderful family you have, Ruthann. You’re right, the most important that thing your dad did was to bring you to church every Sunday. What a lovely husband you have, too! And, what beautiful sons you have, who I’m sure will be wonderful fathers as well!
Thanks for the strawberry shortcake reminder! That’s my husband’s favorite. His birthday is in June also; I think I’ll make it for him. ;0)
Hi Ruthann!!! We just got back from a fab-oo trip down to your area in Branson! Dear One, You have written such a nice tribute about what a great Father is…

Ruthann, there could be no finer gift than the tribute you wrote here. I wish that it were reading material for Father’s Day Sunday for every dad everywhere.
Enjoy your time on the West Coast…
You gave your husband such honor by the words that you invested in your post. It was a blessing to see that Christ was honored. It is all because of Him that your husband is the man he is. You and your family are blessed. Our family has the same. We are so grateful to the Lord.
Love your blog…… The red jumps out!
Blessings to your precious family,

Hi RuthAnn, I just wanted to stop by and invite you to my new blog for a visit. I finally decided to take the plunge. I had some other health issues last January, so I had to leave my space at Leola’s, but I’m still “out and about”.
Loved your piece on “Father’s”, you know I always look forward to your posts.
Have a great summer!
Debra
Ruthie,
I think I commented before….but I was rereading your post…just cuz I like to…LOL…and I wanted to share with you that my grandpop (who passed away right when my daughter turned one)….helped develop the sidewinder missle (I believe) for the government. Maybe he and your dad worked together! ha! :) May be far fetched but still thought it was interesting to share with you! :)
Wishing you much happiness and joy this week!
Katy

Some time ago, I really needed to buy a good house for my business but I did not earn enough cash and couldn’t buy anything. Thank goodness my mother adviced to try to get the personal loans from banks. Thus, I did that and was satisfied with my sba loan.
I loved your comments about fathers. It’s almost like we have the same dad. I was fortunate too. Thank you
