Merry Christmas Sugar Pies! I hope that in the midst of all of your busy preparations…baking those yummy sugar cookies….shopping and wrapping those last minute gifts….doing laundry, cooking meals, and keeping the house tidy…that you would take a few moments from all the flurry to sit and ponder (like Mary did) at the dazzling-wonder of God’s most wonderful gift to us…..the reason why we are celebrating! So go grab a yummy cup of hot cocoa or tea and come spend a few Christmas moments with me….
“O star of wonder, star of light, Star with royal beauty bright, Westward leading still proceeding, Guide us to Thy perfect light.” ~Old Christmas Carol
“Oh Holy Night, the stars are brightly shining, it is the night of our dear Savior’s birth. Long lay the world, in sin and error pining, and He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn…..
…Fall on your knees,Oh hear the angel voices. O night divine, O, night when Christ was born, O night divine, O night divine!” ~ A. Adam
“Mary quietly treasured these things in her heart and often thought about them” Luke 2:19
The Word of God says that Jesus is the light of the world. Light brings life. We couldn’t survive without light on this earth. If the sun no longer shined every plant would wither and die. No plants, no food, no life, no beauty, no joy. Ahh, but when the sun shines the sky is blue, flowers bloom, fruit hangs sweet from the trees, sunbeams warm our skin, the birds sing and beauty fills the earth. It is the same with our souls. Our souls cannot survive without Jesus, it’s His light that brings us life. It’s His light that fills our heart with hope and goodness, love and comfort, mercy and grace, truth and wisdom, beauty and joy and of course Salvation with the promise of eternal life in Heaven with Him. His Word (the Bible) lights up the path of our life so we can see the right way to go. Think about this…when we come home at night and everything is dark, the first thing we do is turn on the light. It makes us feel safe and it helps us to see where we are going. It also helps us to recognise and feel that comforting sense of belonging…we think to ourself….ahh, it’s good to be home! That is what Jesus does for us when we invite Him to make His home in our heart. He turns the light on…and wonder upon wonders… hope and beauty fills our soul! The wonderful news is, His light is eternal….it can never be snuffed out. We never have to live in darkness again.
“Later, Jesus talked to the people again, saying, “I am the light of the world. The person who follows me will never live in darkness but will have the light that gives life.” John 8:12
Let the glory of the Lord shine in your heart today! If you find yourself in a dark and lonely place this season, ask the Lord to turn the light on in your heart so you can feel the warmth of His love for you and see the glow of a brighter future.
“Look up! However dark your night, there’s a Star shining for YOU, it’s the Bright and Morning Star, Jesus Christ, your Lord, Light of the World.” ~Peggie Bohanon
If you need God’s help, Pray this Prayer…Dear Heavenly Father, you are Holy and so Loving, thank you for sending your Son to this earth to rescue me. I believe that He died for my sins and you raised Him from the dead and He is alive and hears my prayer. I need your grace and mercy, please forgive me of my sins and make me white as snow, come into my heart and fill me with your goodness and love, I make Jesus my Lord and Savior. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
If you prayed this prayer you are no longer alone! Your Prince of Peace has rescued your soul and He has an amazing future designed just for you and you have the promise of Heaven. This doesn’t mean there won’t be bumps in the road, but He will be right by your side, holding your hand every moment of every day. You must read His life giving Word to stay strong and to get to know Jesus personally (I recommend the New Living Translation). Read Psalm 139 to find out how the Lord had all of your days planned before you were born…and the thoughts He thinks about you are so many they out-number the grains of sand! He is always watching over you…He loves you so much He just can’t take His eyes off of you!! Then read the Gospel of John to learn about our wonderful Jesus. And read Psalm 91 to remind yourself that God is your protector. Welcome to the Family of God!
“Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory fo the Lord is risen upon you.” Isaiah 60:1
Please leave me a comment if you prayed the prayer of Salvation…I would love to know!
Jesus is the best gift Ev-ah! That is why I love to decorate my home for Christmas in celebration of His Love and sacrifice for me. All the lights and sparkle are perhaps a little glimpse of heaven…..
…a reminder that He is preparing a glorious take-your-breath-away heaven!
“Considering God decorated the heavens–His own dwelling place–it seems no less fitting for us to dress up our homes with strings of lights, carols that worship His name, and symbols and seasonal reminders to help us celebrate the birth of His Son. ” Karla Dornacher
These are a few vintage ornaments from my childhood Christmas tree. I love that my favorite ornament as a little girl had the title of my favorite Christmas song…Silent Night…the same song I sang my babies to sleep when I became a mama.
Here are a few more peeks into The Farmhouse….
Simple adornments….hurricane lamps filled with tinsel garland….pine branches…a string of shimmering snowballs. I bought a package of tinsel strands for 99 cents, and it transformed the whole look of the mantel into a sparkly winter wonderland. I remember putting this same silvery tinsel on my Christmas tree as a child….what was old is new again!
I found these vintage ice-skates at a fleamarket…when I saw them heartfelt memories of my own ice-skating days were brought to mind. I “frosted” them with clear glitter and snowball pom-poms.
A frosted snowman from Homegoods and a handsome clock from Walmart! Embellishing your home doesn’t have to be expensive!
The Disney-girl in me just loves to create this snowy village each year….
I love this Victorian house with the bay window…inside a bountiful table is set with all of the fixin’s …turkey, ham, cranberry sauce, pies, homemade bread, asparagus and candlelight! I was asked where I got my village houses…..this one is Snow Village– Department 56—and the title is “Thanksgiving At Grandmother’s House”…..all of my other houses I got at Walmart several years ago.
“Oh, the snow, the beautiful snow, filling the sky and earth below; Over the housetops, over the street, Over the heads of the people you meet, dancing, twirling, swirling along.”~ James Watson
The framed artwork is Thomas Kinkade.
Oh dear…the deer is eating Frosty’s carrot nose!
A favorite family tradition…picking out the Christmas tree! The fragrance of a pine tree is the most wonderful smell in the world!
“For years we put the Christmas tree in the parlor. It was the fanciest room in the old farmhouse–carpeted, wallpapered and curtained. It seemed fitting to celebrate the Master’s birthday in the best room.” ~ Jean Bell Mosley, The Christms in Mama’s Kitchen
“Children’s happy voices sing ‘Glory to the newborn King!’ while the church bells joyfully ring… this is Christmas!
“Festive trees and child’s delight, carols ringing through the night, frosted panes aglow with light…this is Christmas!” ~ Beth Edwards
Here are a few ideas for some last minute gift-giving…you can order from Amazon and in most cases have it delivered to your home in two days…

Some of the chapter titles are Farmhouse Breakfasts, Fireside Soups and Breads, Cozy Kitchen Suppers and Homemade Desserts.

I just discovered your blog not too long ago, but it always brightens my day to pay you a visit! Thank you for being so cheery, many of us can forget that during this very busy time of year. Merry Christmas to you!
YOU ARE SUCH A SWEET HEART…HE IS IN YOUR HEART FOR SURE…AND MINE TOO. I FEEL JUST LIKE A LITTLE KID, I AM SO EXCITED FOR CHRISTMAS.
TODAY I SAT ON A COUCH, HOLDING A FRIENDS HAND AND WE SHED TEARS TOGETHER AS WE SPOKE OF OUR LOVE FOR JESUS CHRIST AND OF OUR TESTIMONIES OF THE THE POWER OF THE RESURRECTION. HER HUSBAND HAD A STROKE 2 WEEKS AGO AND IT WENT DOWN HILL FROM THERE…HE PASSED AWAY 2 DAYS AGO. IF IT WEREN’T FOR OUR SURE KNOWLEDGE, THERE WOULD BE NO HOPE…BUT THERE IS. Come say hi :D
Beautiful! Thank you SO MUCH for all you put into your website & blog (yours is a gracious ministry)!! Appreciate you. Have a very Merry CHRISTmas!
Merry Christmas to you…. I was in your neck of the woods earlier this month and cried as I left… I miss my homeland… but I am very blessed in my new place where God has placed me.
I wish you peace, love, and health for the new year, you are a continual encouragement to me and so many. Thanks for sharing your life and home with all of us.
Merry Christmas,
Just A Gal…
I should’ve *known* better than to read your post after just applying my makeup !! LOL Once again, the tears flowed from reading your post and, yes, saying your prayer of salvation !! It’s the combination of sitting here quietly with my morning cup of hot tea before my son wakes up … the beautiful, instrumental music playing in your background and your eloquent words “hitting home” that gets to me *every* time I enjoy your new installments !! I’ll know better next time. :-) I love your holiday decor … your obvious *less is more* approach this year is beautiful and enviable !! Had our home not been on our local Christmas Tour of Homes, I would have loved to have kept it more about family … less about decorations, too !! Thanks again for opening your home and sharing your inspirational thoughts. And, not that you have the time, but I’d love for you to stop by my new blog sometime … I attempted your holiday kitchen chalkboard saying from last year … fun !! Happy Holidays, Becca (http://adventuresindecorating1.blogpost.com)
Merry CHRISTmas and many blessings are wished for you!
I enjoy reading all of your posts and perusing through your blog and website often, so I thought it was time I finally leave a comment and let you know how much I appreciate your posts! Such beautiful photos and great ideas …I always leave your blog with a smile on my face! :)
And the Joel Osteen book is great! I love all of his books, actually. He is such an encouraging and uplifting minister of the Word. Thank you for sharing about him in your post! May God richly bless you and yours this Christmas Season!
Blessings and Hugs,
~ Tanya

I am a huge fan of the movie Trip to Bountiful!
But, might I suggest a real Christmas oldie?
I’ve been longing to see this movie and have ordered it finally as they just don’t show it anymore on cable…
“The Homecoming-A Christmas Story”
the original Walton’s Mountain Christmas with different actors for the Parents, but a memorable movie just the same.
Also found at Amazon! ;~D

A very blessed Christmas, Aunt Ruthie. Thank you for sharing the beauty of God’s precious gift to all who share in this wonderful website. It is the reason for enjoying this special time of year, and it should be the reason for rejoicing in our each and every waking moment.
The farmhouse looks just snowy, sparkly and lovely. Finding this site will be a year ’round gift for me!
Warm and toasty Christmas hugs to you and your family.
I love your site. so encouraging and YES I LOVE THE LORD JESUS AND WILL SERVE HIM EVERYDAY…….
My most treasured Christmas ornament is a blue bulb with “Silent Night” on it also. It was Great grandmother’s tree, then my Grama’s and now mine. It was always the most special to me to hang when I was little. One year my Grama and I found a Christmas tree with a bird’s nest in it. Which I thought was wonderful. That year, the little ball sat in the bird’s nest. Isn’t it funny how such little things mean so much to a child.
Merry Christmas, Ruthann! Looks like you are ready to sit back and take it all in. It is so funny to me the items that you mentioned: LOVE the movie “The Trip to Bountiful”…SO SO SO good. I just watched it the other day, in fact. When she is sitting at the train station and singing “This is my story” I just cry and sing with her! ;o) And I love Joel Osteen, and I just ate my first pizzelle this year – delicious. I hope y’all have a wonderful, very blessed Christmas – saying a prayer for all y’all right now, sweet friend!
I prayed the prayer. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for your blog! I so enjoy reading it and have passed it on to all my friends. God Bless you and your family. What an awsome witness. It is good to know that the internet can be used to glorify the Lord. Have a Merry Christmas!
I just love coming to your farmhouse and seeing all your decorations for Christmas! We should all be thankful, as we are very blessed.
This is so teaching, I really enjoyed yor site, and really enjoy your e-mail, I read the pray and I love Jesus very much, he is with me every minute of the day and night, Thank You so much for sharing with me.Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and may God Bless you. Kay from Ms.
I’m still loving your site. I prayed the prayer of salvation in June, 1967, and have been His follower ever since. Thanks for sharing this special message with those who might not have known how simple it is to become a born again Christian. You are THE BEST!
Enjoy your MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY 2010 with your family and friends! God Bless You for your efforts each and every day. :)

A Merry and Blessed Christmas to your family!
I had a hutch just like your white one. When we “lost” our house I set it out to the curb because it was so big and I didn’t want to move it. Seeing yours makes me miss mine a little. I enjoy seeing it though. Brings back memories.
Thank you for adding Christ into your posts- I am loving it! I do miss your music though :)
Ruthann:
I Love you and appreciate all that you do for our family! You are a great wife, a great person, and a loving mommy!
Your hubby!

Thank you, Aunt Ruthie. I know Jesus as my Lord and Savior. But this is the first blog where I have seen the Plan of salvation for others to see. Amen and Bless you for that.
Have a Very Merry and Blessed Christmas. I will be back to visit again.
Sweetie thank you for the most wonderful read this morning! Love to you Gary and the rest of the family, for all the behind the scenes stuff that you must do, and provide, so Aunt Ruthie can bless us globally!!!!!! May God continue to bless you Ruthie as you obey the calling on your life! You are amazing and God’s light truly shines out through your site! It’s sweltering here, downunder and I am so envious of your ”let it snow let it snow let it snow”, but hey, we are loving our summer and appreciate every season we’re blessed with! Enjoy your Christmas celebrating the One who gave and will continue to give forevah!!!!! Praise Him, our friend!!!!
Ruthie~ I too have grown up in an italian family, and my grandma made the traditional Italian cookies EVERY year at Christmas. The year she passed away was the first year we didn’t have pizzelle.
It was DEVASTATING to me! So I ordered a pizzelle iron the following year and have continued her tradition in our family ever since. I miss her dearly, yet every time I pull out my iron, I smile.
Merry Christmas
Maria
Dear Aunt Ruthie:
Loved loved this posting, this prayer will be with me every day from now on, I really needed this! And I just get so excited everytime I see a new posting from you. You are so positive, in the midst of all the negative you are truly a treasure. Merry Christmas!
Thank you for sharing the TRUTH in love. Thankfully, I prayed a prayer for salvation many years ago as a little girl… and I still get chills reading it here. May the lord BLESS you for sharing His story with your readers.
Merry Christmas!!
Such a beautiful post. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thank you for your inspirational words.
Love your blog. You are a great testimony for the Lord. God bless you for sharing the gospel with your readers.
Aunt Ruthie,
I really enjoyed your post although I consider myself a Christian sometimes I think I get too busy. I did say the prayer that you wrote for us. Thank you for reminding me to slow down and remember the real reason for the season.
I just got the Farmhouse Christmas book in the mail, can’t wait to read it!
Enjoy your family, God bless
Carey
I love the pic you have of Doris Day!! Doris Day is my favorite actress! Merry Christmas!
Hi Ruthie . . . just want to tell you what a blessing you and your blog are to me. You always encourage us to be the Christian women we are meant to be and to be the wives and mamas God wants us to be. I am very thankful to you for that inspiration. Regarding your comment on Joel Osteen though, you need to be careful of him. I believe in humility and understanding that everything is God’s . . . we are just the stewards of it. God wants to bless us, but this does not mean make us wealthy in worldly riches. We are to follow Jesus’s example and Jesus was by no means rich by worldly terms. When Joel Osteen was interviewed on one of the morning shows . . . I think it was Good Morning America . . . he stated, “I don’t like to talk about hell . . . people need encouragement in todays world.” While yes, people need encouragement, pretending that hell doesn’t exist is so wrong . . . as Christians we need to encourage but also tell the truth in order to save others from the true hell they are heading toward. If we don’t tell them the whole story, we are failing in the call to evangelize. Frances Chan is an amazing author and has more the view of humility and service. You should check it out. His first book is Crazy Love and the new one, which I am hoping to get for Christmas, is called “Forgotten God.” He is amazing!
But, please note, I do appreciate all you do and think you are an amazing woman of God!
Hugs & Blessings,
Brenda
Merry Christmas and a very happy and blessed new year to you nad your family Ruthie!

Just when I was feeling a little (No ALOT) emotional about missing my mom at this time of the year I sat down to cry in front of my computer. I then got over myself and opened up my mail and there was the answer sitting in front of me from your wonderful blog JESUS loves me and he is the reason. So thank you so much for your wonderful heart ecspecially to take the time out to share the message Happy Holidays and GOD Bless You!

Oh, Aunt Ruthie –
I just read your blog for Christmas (I’m a little late). Thank you for sharing Jesus with your blog family. I love that you highlight the sinner’s prayer. To think someone comes to Christ through your blog – you gotta love it! I just turned 43 last month and found out I have ovarian cancer. I see it as a gift from God – He provides such strength and peace through this new journey, it’s amazing. Thank you for sharing Jesus via your blog. He’s using you and your gifts in an AMAZING way!
All the best to you and your family in 2010.

Great post! Thanks for the tour!
When you’re in uncomfortable position and have got no cash to get out from that, you will require to receive the home loans. Because that should aid you definitely. I take student loan every single year and feel myself OK just because of that.
Looking forward to reading this beautiful post during the month of December! Happy birthday Jesus!! Cindy
