Oh Happy Day! Spring is springing! The sun is beaming and the leaves are beginning to burst from the sleepy gray trees! Birds are chirping their merry little songs. It’s like the earth is waking up and yawning, getting all bright eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to inspire us with God’s glory!
The robins are busy setting up housekeeping, building nests and preparing for new life!
That is what Easter is all about…new life!
When we receive the gift of Salvation…through Jesus…He creates in us a clean heart and gives us a fresh start, a new life! Have you recieved His gift? Click here to know more .
It’s a time to Rejoice!
Rejoice! That God loved us so much that He gave His only Son to die on the Cross for our sins that whoever believes in Him would get to go to Heaven one day!
Rejoice! That Jesus, the Lamb Of God, was willing to sacrifice His life for us! To wash our sins away! You see, sin separates us from God. The Bible says that “the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” ( Romans 6:23). That is why Jesus died, to pay our debt so we could live!
He could have called ten thousand angels ……
“He could have called ten thousand angels
To destroy the world and set Him free.
He could have called ten thousand angels,
But He died alone, for you and me.” ~Song by Ray Overholt
Jesus was in complete control of His death on the cross. It was His decision to become the Passover Lamb….because He loved us so much…He could not bear the thought of living without us forever. Jesus is our rescuer!
“Oh how He loves you and me,
Oh how He loves you and me,
He gave His life, what more could He give?
Oh how He love you, Oh how He loves me,
Oh how He loves you and me!” ~song by Kirt Kaiser
“The next day John saw Jesus coming to him and said, Look! There is the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world!” ~John 1:29
Rejoice! Jesus is alive! He rose from the dead three days after being crucified…just like He said He would and He is preparing a wonderful place in heaven for those who abide in Him and call Him Lord and Savior. And the great news is He is coming back for us someday!
This chalkboard message is my little reminder! Whenever I get discouraged or overwhelmed I always tell myself “No matter what happens in life, I still get to go to heaven!”….and heaven is going to be AwESOmE! That hope fills my heart with joy and strength to handle the hard things that come my way because I know the best is yet to come!
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3
My relationship with Jesus is what gives me joy, peace and hope! He is everything wonderful! It truly brings me joy to honor Him in my home! For without Him, my home would just be a house.
Come take a peek at the rest of my Easter decorating ideas.
I had a lot of left-over straw from fall so I decided why not use it to decorate farm-girl style! Here, I filled up a glass cookie jar with barn straw and “sugared” eggs.
Did you know….that you can buy chalkboard contact paper and cut it into any shape? It is so fun! I love it because you can stick it anywhere on most anything and when you want to change it or remove it, it peels right off! You can find it here on Amazon! Think of the possibilities! You can cut a piece to fit a cabinet door…. make placemats…. tags…. cut a large heart shape and put it on your kid’s bedroom door and leave love notes and reminders…or a small heart on your bathroom mirror to write a scripture, affirmation or a note to your sweetie!
This beautiful oval shape is also chalkboard paper! I found it on Amazon also. It’s called Wall Candy! It just sticks on the wall and won’t damage paint. It’s a good size too: 31 1/2 x 18 1/2. I’m thinkin’….. put this on a flat door to write inspiring quotes or important reminders! Or above your daughter’s bed on the wall with a note of sweet-dreams! AdOrAbLe!
It’s a good thing to decorate for the seasons. Even if it’s just a little spot. One little table. It takes so little and yet adds such joy! It also sends a message to our family that we notice God’s goodness in each fresh season. Decorating is part of the celebrating. It shows we appreciate the beauty that the Lord blesses us with. It also lifts our spirit to find fresh beauty in the corners of our home!
“Into all our lives, in many simple, familiar, homey ways, God infuses this element of joy from the surprises of life, which unexpectedly brighten our days and fill our eyes with light.” ~ Samuel Longfellow
Eggs in a cookie jar….is that silly? Adding a bit of whimsy is like sprinkling glittery joy into the hearts of our family.
“What will your children remember? I will do something special or silly or unexpected with a child today. The child may use it to make a better world tomorrow.” ~ Gloria Gaither
Our family tradition is to hide an Easter basket inside the house for each child…even adult children and their spouses! My hubby is real good at hiding them! We also hide plastic eggs with surprises inside throughout a couple rooms. I think my hubby and I have the most fun of all watching the kids hunt for the goodies! And of course we look forward to our Church Easter service!
Every house where love abides and friendship is a guest is surely home, and home sweet home; for there the heart can rest. ~Henry Van Dyke
“You have to look for the joy. Look for the light of God that is hitting your life, and you will find sparkles you didn’t know were there.”
~Barbara Johnson
Twigs….vintage music….golden straw….farm-white eggs….music to my ears.
Thank you all for your warm and wonderful comments for my son J.J. and his fiance’ Tiffany on their engagement! They so apprciate your kindness! In fact JJ left a sweet comment himself….
“Thank you mom for posting that special day. No doubt in my mind you are the BEST mom in the world. I love you. Thank you to all for your best wishes for me and Tiffany!”
Some of you may have missed seeing this photo…it was taken at the exact moment that JJ proposed! A nice couple was driving by and took a picture, promising to email it. I got it a few days after I posted my blog about the engagement…I just had to share it! JJ is just beaming! (Oh Honey!!) I am too because he is coming here to Missouri from California for Easter! Yay! I get all four kids back home for the Holiday!

Hi Ruthie, I just found your website a few nights ago and have been going backwards to read all your posts…I’m so enjoying everything you have posted. I’m now a grandmom of 4 beautiful little ones and am loving watching my daughters instill a love of home and hearth like my grandmoms, mom and myself all did. I love all your heartwarming posts about how much God loves us all too…makes me feel so good….this is the best feel good site I’ve found since I discovered bloggers. Thanks for everything and please keep it coming.
P.S. My late hubby was Italian/Irish and his paternal grandparents were immigrants like your family….so love Italians.
What a wonderful post. I love that you presented the gospel and provided a way for someone searching to learn how to accept Jesus and have a relationship with Him. I pray you have a great Easter with all children home. It is such a joy to be able to spend time with our children. I am fortunate that my two children live in the same town. God Bless You.

Your blog is amazing. I love the design and colors you use. Who does it?
Your home is spectacular…any chance on a video tour someday to post. I am transforming my home into a farmhouse/french country and would love to get rustic inspiration from you as our styles are very similar.
Happy Easter
I’ve been so busy getting things ready for our Easter camping trip this year I haven’t decorated for Easter in the house. After reading your blog, I’ve decided I need to decorate at least one small space because it does bring such joy to a home. Great ideas of yours have inspired me! Thanks and have a wonderful Easter celebration.

Loved your words of God today! Very uplifting and inspiring!
Hugs,
Karen in Texas
The women who took the picture must have been a scrapbooker because most people would just think oh how cute – how many would take a picture of complete strangers and then get them the picture!
Hey sweet Sugar Pie, I LOVED the picture of the cardinal in the spring tree. They are the “Sparkle” God sends to me many times as a reminder of all His love for me!
I am so thankful that Jesus washed my sins away as a little girl in childrens church. That one event in my life has saved me so much heart ache thru the years and even the things I have gone thru have been easier because he has been there with me. Thank you, Ruthie for spreading the love of God and family thru your blog. Bless you & your family as we celebrate the blessed resurrection of our Lord & Savior.
Have a wonderful Easter Ruthie. I love reading your posts. Blessings to all. I can’t wait to see pictures of the new baby!
Thank you for your reminder of this season! :D With your quotes, it reminded me of one of my favorite songs from Nicole Nordeman called “Every Season”. She sings a verse of every season, and with spring she sings:
“And everything that’s new has bravely surfaced
Teaching us to breathe
What was frozen through is newly purposed
Turning all things green
So it is with You
And how You make me new
With every season’s change
And so it will be
As You are re-creating me
Summer, autumn, winter, spring”
Here’s the video of the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dwpdZdvCl8&feature=related
God bless!

Thank you for this wonderful post! I was having an issue with trying to file our taxes which shouldn’t have been an issue at all, and decided to just step away from it for a little while and talk to Jesus about it. Then I came here and read your post, turned on the music and listened for a little while, and it all doesn’t seem to be so big anymore. I am so thankful for the hope I have in Jesus! How do people make it without Him? I’m also thankful for those “sparkles”
that he blesses me with if I am just willing to look. You, Aunt Ruthie, are one of those sparkles today.
Happy Easter to you and your family.!!!
Love , Charlotte
Auntie Ruthie…this is such a wonderful post! I LOVE the Lord Jesus Christ with all my heart and I am thrilled to find others who feel the same!

I start playing Christmas music October 1st! I love the chalk ink!! Love it!! Gooseberry Patch is my favorite cookbook company! Thank you for being a great light for HIM!

Again you’ve made me cry! I’ve never cried so much as when I became a Christian… Because God took my stony heart and replaced it with one made of flesh and filled with compassion!
One day the world will be filled with His compassion and love… And I can hardly wait for that day!
Thank you for your love and compassion, and may you and yours have a Joyous Resurrection Day!
Goodmorning Ruthie! Thanks so much for your posting. What a fantastic read this morning. Thank you. Do you know it is different here in the southern Hemisphere, Australia, to not be experiencing Easter at the same time as Spring. New life birthing forth in nature is perfect to be at Easter time, the time we celebrate the resurrection and new life! Oh well, just a thought….but I so love reading all that is birthing with your new season of spring. We are now feeling the beginning of Autumn, which after the summer we have had, I am saying, Bring it on!!!!! Love you lots xxxx Glenda xxxx
Your decorations are beautiful…as usual. I love that someone snapped that picture for them. What a sweet gesture.
I loved all the photos you shared in this glorious post but have to say my favourite was the proposal picture – not staged but a moment in time captured forever. How very special for you and your families. How lovely that the person who captured this was able to send you the picture. I’m sure it will take pride of place in your family album!

Your latest message is really beautiful. – I have always enjoyed browsing through your pictures for cute decorating ideas, its like looking through a really pretty magazine full of down to earth homey sweetness, but I think that best of all, you are also using it to give glory to Jesus and remind everybody to live with a thankful and grateful heart- that is obviously His main purpose for your blog – and you do it so well. Its not just empty pictures of a beautiful home, there are sweet ideas that can be used in the humblest of homes. Home is what we make it, and I think God smiles when we all do the best we can with what he has provided. Thanks so much Ruth
Ruthie…….Thank you for taking the time for these wonderful posts! Your decorations are lovely as always….
We have had an earlier than usual spring this year and its so great to hear the birds singing again…
Wishing you and yours a Blessed Easter.
What a wonderful post – I truly feel the spirit of Easter this year. My husband I have been thru a rough year and now we feel like we have been given a chance to star over. Rebirth – yes, that is exactly what it feels like to me.
Thank you for continuing to share your faith with all of us. If even one person turns their face towards God instead of turning away, it will be worth your efforts.
God Bless all of you this blessed Easter Season.
Rejoice!!! The Lord is Risen!
Blessings to you all (and congrats to the happy couple!)
