Summertime is in full swing here in the Ozarks! My house is full of family from the West Coast…we’re catching fireflies….eating pie (Blueberry Peach and Lemon)….sittin’ on the front porch chatting and watching the kids play on the grass…. I just bought a brand new American flag to hang proudly near my front door and soon we’ll be lighting sparklers and fire crackers and eating Barbecue and ice cold watermelon.
I wanted to share with y’all my fun vacation in Californy(that’s how we say it in the Ozarks). So go grab something frosty to drink, sit back and enjoy a virtual tour of Disneyland, the beach in North County San Diego, shopping at La Maison Rustique Barn Sale and a cute sea side shop near Mission Beach….let’s go!
Y’all know I am a Disneyland Girl! So much so, that I came here on my Wedding night (31 years ago) and rode the Monorail in my wedding dress with my hubby in his Tux. We got to ride in the front, inside a dome of glass, and waved at everybody like we were the King and Queen! It was so much fun! We spent our first night at the Disneyland Hotel. It was very dreamy!
I just can’t resist taking pictures of the gorgeous architecture!
Love the Gingerbread!
When Walt Disney was alive, he would stay in the apartment above the fire station. He would light the lamp in the window to let the folks in the park know he was there. It was such a delight for him to look out and see everyone enjoying the place he created. They keep the lamp lit in the window every day now to remember the man who brought smiles to millions of faces.
My kiddos! J.J., his girlfriend Tiffany, Summer Rose, Ashley and her hubby Glen.
The Fam in front of Cinderella’s Castle.
Darling window displays!
A rooten’-tooten’ western shop in Frontier Town….
Cute idea for stairs!
My redheads!
My Girls again!
Summer and her big bro…J.J.
Beachy Keen Fun…..
I was thinking of y’all!
The boys figuring out how to constuct a volleyball net.
Here I am at the La Maison Rustique Barn Sale with Sherry from Glamarella Junk and Linda, Miss La Maison Rustique herself! Take a peek at all the fun stuff!
I wanted to bring home this stove but it would’nt fit in my suitcase! Isn’t it adorable?! It was refurbished and was in perfect working order.
I met up with a dear friend, Miss Sarah! She was trying on this cute vintage slip. She is one junkin’ queen let me tell you! Sarah used to have the most adorable shop! She could take junk and find a new and creative way to use it. I was always amazed at her displays! (By the way Miss Sarah, I hope you read this because I never found the comment you said you left with your email…so please try again!)
On another day I went shopping with my sister Sherry from Glamarella Junk and my fabulous friend Miss Cat from The Vintage Housewife and my ! We used to be next door neighbors. What a doll she is, so fun and full of joy! One of our stops was Vignettes in San Diego….wait till you see all of their cute things…..
This refreshing Beach Cottage booth is Joy’s from The Vintage Rabbit…she is another very sweet and talented artist!
Aunt Ruthie and The Vintage Housewife! (Cat)
I loved this display at Pottery Barn! Is this cute or what?
Well, I hope you enjoyed this tour of beautiful Californy! I best get back to my company, they are getting ready to light the sparklers! Wishing all my American Sugar Pie Sista’s a wonderful and happy 4th of July!
God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home!
Hugs y’all!
Aunt Ruthie

Oh I love Disneyland!! DH and I are living in San Diego for school and we bought annual passes which has been so much fun! We are planning on going for our birthdays this year and I can hardly wait! (we have the same birthday, one year apart). We’ll have to try out those other San Diego stores, we have a teeny-tiny apartment so there’s not a lot of room for decorating, but it’s still fun to get ideas for the future. :)
Beautiful pictures!
Looks like you had a lovely time back home. :)
Happy 4th of July from Canada!!!
((Hugs))
Laura
Thanks for the trip to the coast! What a wonderful vacation. OOOH, I would just love to get to one of the barn sales. Your sister’s goodies are just fabulous! Have a great holiday weekend!
Debra
I was borned in California but haven’t been back in decades! I love that stove!! Happy 4th to you and HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!
What fun! Thanks for sharing you beautiful pictures! Enjoyed the tour. Happy 4th to you too!!! Sharon
I too love Disneyland and Disneyworld. We just got back from Disneyworld and I do have to say our Disneyland here in California is better. Thanks for sharing your vacation pics with us.
It certainly looks as if everyone had a wonderful vacation. Nothing like some great memory-making times at all your favorite places. Oh I can so see why you wanted that white stove with the red knobs. Are you sure it wouldn’t have fit in the overhead luggage? Ha!
Enjoy the remainder of your holiday, which I am certain will extend for several more days at least…
Oh my looks like you all had a wonderful time….thanks for sharing
with us..loved the pics….oh and that stove is awesome….
Have a safe and Happy 4th….prayers for all that is fighting for our
country my nephew included….
Sweet Blessings…
Tonja
I love Disneyland..grew up just up the coast a few hours and while we live in Kansas now, we love to go there and play. We went a year ago when my kids were 16 and 12 and I thought it was one of the best trips ever. I like it better than Disneyworld but that just might be because I think it is easier to navigate.
Love the glimpses of the ocean…oh HOW I MISS IT!
I love Branson area though and we are headed to Lake of the Ozarks in a week so…while it isn’t “Californy” this part of the country is pretty good too.
What a great vacation! Ruthann I am a Disney fan too and since I live on the east coast, I enjoy Disneyworld so much and just was there a few weeks ago. Enjoy your time with your family during this wonderful Holiday. Thank you for sharing.
Blessings,
Sue
It sounds like you had a great trip to Californy! Light some sparklers for me tonight. We don’t get to have any in our Californy county :( But we’ll be joining you in the barbecue and watermelon.
So Sorry that I missed seeing all you girls at the barn and at Vignettes!!! So glad you had a good time!!!
My hubby and I are due to go to Disneyland very soon!!!

Glad you enjoyed your trip to our sunny Californy! You gals sure know how to have fun. Happy Summer!
Oh what a fun family trip!! How fun are those shops?!!!
Looks like you had a lot of fun on your vacation. Enjoy time with your family on your farm. We went to the Ozarks a couple years ago and stayed nearby in Eureka Springs. Such a cute town. Happy Summer!
Ruthie, While you were at Disneyland, I was visiting Branson. We stayed @ the new Hampton at Payne Stewart Golf Course/Country Club. Met some friends from No. Wisconsin for their first-ever trip to Missouri. They do want to come back. They flew in to the NEW Branson Airport which is beautiful. Rode the NEW “Ducks” – went to Dixie Stampede to celebrate a birthday, saw Shoji, and #1 Hits of the ’60s. All great shows. Met lots of folks along the way. Visited College of the Ozarks for lunch and it was GREAT! That is an amazing place and the students are so friendly and helpful. We had such a great week! More fun than can be imagined! Anyone wanting an amazing family vacation better plan to visit BRANSON – with every show being family-friendly.
Glad you had a good time on your trip – we sure had a good time on our trip. :) – Betty in Oklahoma
AUNT RUTHIE,

What wonderful pictures, especially of Disneyland. I got to go for the very first time this past Christmas and absolutely LOVED it. I’m trying to figure out how I can get back real soon….maybe in the Fall. What was so cool about the pics is that now I can relate to where the different buildings are in the park…. and believe it or not…it snowed while we were there… :)
As far as the beach is concerned… I didn’t get out of the car. It was very windy and cold but we had promised our grandson to take him. He and Paw Paw loved it. Thanks for the message written in the sand….it was thoughtful of you to remember us while you were gone.
Too bad we can’t have a Sugar Pie Sistas retreat…. at Disneyland.
Love it, love it, love it! Thanks for sharing such wonderful pictures and for thinking of us! (((hugs))) to you my sista!
My new husband & I went to Disneyland 42 years ago in 9-09. It was an amazing place then & has only gotten better, I’m sure. We go to Branson more often. Sometimes I think I could live up there as well. We are at the very bottom of the state of Louisiana. Give some details of the residential developement you & your family are doing. You never know. LOL
Happy 4th Aunt Ruthie! Loved the tour.
Blessings,
Patty
Looks like you had a wonderful time!!!
Hugs!!!
Just A Gal…
Hi – I’m new to your blog and am just loving it. I want to tell you that yours is the very first blog I have come across that has music playing that I don’t have to scramble scrolling as fast as I can finding their player to turn off the music that is often interruptive in reading their blog. Yours is pleasant and of course I love all the old time music a lot. I added you to my blog list on my blog and your button. I’ll be back often.
I do have one question though……..do you have a profile on your blog to read about who you are? If you do I can’t seem to find it.
Blessings, Pamela
What fun! Great photos too, and darling family! You are so cute and I could have spent hours in that shop.
I’m still learning how to navigate your blog, as it’s different than what I’m used to, but I hope that saying that doesn’t make me sound as techy lacking as I really am…
I really love your blog, and am so enjoying what you post about!
Blessings,
Sasha

Aunt Ruthie:
I love your photos of your vacation in California. What a wonderful trip. I know you and your family had a fantastic 4th. I also enjoyed your 4th of July poem. This is a great posting!
Please visit my blog and leave a comment at: http://blueridgepoet.blogspot.om
How I would love to go to California with you. I lived in Northern California for 20 years. We would have a great time shopping. I could show you some great antique places in Northern California for shopping.
I have been enjoying the wonderful forum you created. It really is helpful and I get so much from it. I have noticed that a lot of people ask for prayer. Have you thought of doing a prayer link (like the recipe link)? My high school graduating class yahoo group has one now & I think that is the greatest idea. We all can use prayer and a link would be great to go to for that purpose only.
Thank you Ruth and Dusty.
I would love to know where you get all your adorable vintage homemaking pictures. They are so cute!
Also, I showed your blog to my sister recently (she is not saved) and she LOVES it. I am so grateful that you share your faith here.
Summer

Nice pictures! My hubby and I went to Disneyland for our honeymoon. Disneyland was our ultimate destination from Canada but we enjoyed a lot of other places on the way, like Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, etc. God willing, we will repeat the trip this summer, with our kids, in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. Thanks for sharing, it makes me want to be there right now.
I’m quite certain that you are *me* in a few years.

When I saw your picture of the Golden Horseshoe at Disneyland, I just had to let you know how much I love your website. I enjoy reading about your life in the Ozarks and have even tried a few of your recipes. My family loves Hillbilly Spaghetti Pie!!! Disneyland has always been a very special place because that is where I met my husband. He was Pecos Bill in the original Golden Horseshoe Revue and I was a waitress. We’ve been married almost 29 years. I thought it was great that you went to Disneyland after you got married and rode the monorail!
My blog is not very current or much. I am hoping to start it up again soon.
Thanks for sharing about your life and family. I always look forward to your new posts!
Janet
