Well Sugar Pies, it’s hard to believe that it’s time to say “farewell to fall”! Here in the Ozarks the color was so vibrant, so gorgeous! This is the view from my backyard. This heaven-sent, love-drenched, beautiful landscape is a reminder of God’s faithfulness and goodness. I’ve taken some time to reflect on those words “faithfulness” and “goodness”. I personally know so many people that are going through tough times, myself included. Whether it’s financial, a health issue, a relationship problem, a loss of a loved one, a bruised and broken heart…if there is one thing I know to be true, God is faithful and good! His mercies are new every morning!
The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
His mercies never cease.
Great is His faithfulness;
His mercies begin afresh each morning.
Lamentations 3:22-23
“I would have lost heart had I not believed
that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13
No matter what you may be going through, please know that we have the truth and the hope that God loves us and will carry us through the hardest of times. He hears our prayers and is working “behind the scenes” to work out all things for our good. I remember when my hubby and I ran a live music theater here in Branson, Missouri, I had the opportunity to stay back-stage during one performance. What an eye opener! While the stage itself was empty, waiting for the next act, the performers back-stage were in a flurry, changing costumes, moving props, humming a tune to find the right key, rehearsing a line, fixing a broken shoe lace, getting in position to enter the stage to go on with the show. Little did the audience know all of the commotion that was being orchestrated behind the curtain. The same is true with us, the Word of God tells us that prayer changes things, (The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16) So when we pray, change begins to happen. God is orchestrating things “behind the scenes”. In His time, His plan is revealed. In the meantime we must wait with faith and a grateful heart. We need to remind ourselves that this is just a season…because of Jesus’ love for us everything is gonna be alright…the best is yet to come.
“‘For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,
‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future’.” Jeremiah 29:11
Even in the midst of difficult times it’s so important to stay positive, to look around and see the goodness of the Lord! Let’s not miss every day miracles! Let’s be thankful and say so! Thankfulness is the key to keeping our joy. Do we ever feel good when we are complaining? No way Ho-zay! Doing so steals our joy and the joy of those around us! That’s why the Lord tells us to guard our heart! So, do things that hug your heart! Do things that hug other peoples hearts!
I had a birthday in October and my sister-in-law Linda hugged my heart by taking me out on a junkin’ adventure! We decided to head to a darling antique shop that we’d been to a couple years ago, Pappy’s Antiques & Cakery. It was still as cute as ever! We enjoyed the farm scenes along the way as well as the junk!
We passed by this very old and chippy house and thought it was a hoot that some mama name her kid Fred-Tom! Linda and I were bantering back and forth about all the things his mama would have said to him in her southern drawl…”Fred-Tom, it’s time to come in and wash up fer supper!” …”Fred-Tom did you git yer chores done?” Lol! Then we drove a little closer and saw that the “&” had faded between “Fred” and “Tom”. Fiddles, I liked it better when we thought it was just one name! Even so, our ribs were tickled as we imagined the ordinary adventures of Fred-Tom!
We drove into the quaint little town square of Bolivar, Missouri.
We needed cake! Hooray! We got to The Country Hearth Tea-room just ten minutes before they closed for the day!
We found a few more antique shops on the way home. This is a typical scene…a pair of good ol’ boys waitin’ for their wives!
Oh my! Am I the first commentor??! :D
Thank you, once again, for your wisdom and a piece of your life!
Congratulations on becoming a grandma-ma again!

Ruth Ann, What a great visit! I have been wanting to visit Branson for the past few weeks, now I HAVE to make it to Branson! I am also wanting to get to Ozark for all the great shops there. Your booth looks very nice. I really like the little stove that looks like there is warm pie on the stove! Have a great Thanksgiving week.
Blessings,Becky
Ruthie . . . Thanks for such an uplifting post. Autumn in the Ozarks looks gorgeous! It has been beautiful here in Washington this year too . . . the vibrant colors really display the amazing artistry of our Lord! I think of the scripture that talks about creation declaring the Lord! How anyone could not believe in a creator is hard to imagine! Congrats on the upcoming grandies! What a blessing! I look forward to those years in the not to distant future. We seem to have several friends that are friends of friends . . . I am friends with Serena Thompson, from the Farm Chicks who is great buddies with Heather Bullard. I love her new magazine! She is very talented. She was at the Farm Chicks show this year, but I was so busy manning (or womaning . . . ) my booth that I didn’t get a chance to meet her. Hugs to you, sweet Ruthie Girl! : )
Congratulations on the news of TWO new grandbabies!! How exciting :) I pray you have a wonderfully blessed Thanksgiving, as I’m sure you will. Thanks for the words of encouragement, they are always so helpful! It is nice to be reminded that our Lord IS working behind the scenes when all we see is what is right in front of us :) Happy Thanksgiving!
What a great looking family you have. I was in Branson a couple weeks ago. My son used to go to Missouri State in Springfield and we had a great time at the Antique Malls there. Your booth looks great!

Hi, Ruthie
I don’t know how to contact you, but I think your twitter acct. has been hacked. I keep getting direct messages from you the last two days and I find it strange because we have never spoking before. You may want to change all your passwords to your accounts. I made the mistake and clicked on a message that I received from someone else and my FB and twitter account was hacked. Hope you see this message.

Email me and I will send you a recipe for our favorite apple cake . This recipe is quite old and really delicious. You can try it and if you love it as much as my family does, you can share it with your fans and friends.
Duh….. i forgot to send you my email address. I am gardengoddess1@verizon.net . Let me give you a hint….. butterscotch chips ! Intrigued yet . I think your friends and family would enjoy the cake that I only make at this time of the year due to the availability of my stayman apples.
Dear Aunt Ruthie,
I’m a new follower of your blog and can I just start by saying I LOVE everything about it ( I also follow you on Pinterest)! I found you when I was looking up homemade laundry soap. My husband and I recently had our first baby and I’m lucky enough to have the opportunity to stay home with my baby girl and be a homemaker! So many don’t have that option. I was an event coordinator before which was an exciting job but I love telling people what I do now! Being a homemaker is so much more than a “housewife” or a “stay at home mom”. (*Just as a side note, if anyone refers to themselves as a housewife/SAHM theres nothing wrong with that i just think “homemaker” is a better description of what we do) I take pride in what I do for my family and it’s so nice to find a community of like minded people. Ever time you post I’m inspired to try new things to fill my home with more warmth, joy, and love! You have such a beautiful family and I think we’d all be lyin’ if we said that we didn’t look up to you a little bit! Just wanted to encourage you to continue to share you beautiful life with the world! May God continue to pour out his blessing on you “according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus”
Ruthie,
What great pictures. You are so beautiful. Wish we had all the wonderful places here in Az that you have there. Love your blog so pretty. Happy Thanksgiving! Hugs, Bobbi Jo
What a beautiful blog~full of thanksgiving and hope for all!!
It’s a beautiful day in San Diego, but our trees sure didn’t look like the beauty you got to see:)
Congrats on new babies to come~talk about a blessing~~I am expecting my 6th grandbaby in June~~so exciting!
have a beautiful thanksgiving to you and your family!!!
Dear Ruthie – how I love ‘travelling’ along with you once again – I’m a city girl with a country heart! :o) Blessings over your sweet girls and new babies on the way — I too am to be a Grandma for darling number five ‘anyday now’…..aren’t we a grateful set! May I wish Happy Thanksgiving to you and your dear family from we to the North. :o)
As ‘always’ Ruthie – I luv, luv, luv your Farmhouse Delights! God Bless all that surround your table.
Barbra — Might I mention that I was so touched when I read that you pray over each one who has ‘dropped by’ here with their little comments–SO kind! …..I thank you as I exchange the same grace to you too Ruthie. “B”
After spending the day feeling totally overwhelmed…your post offered a welcomed break in a frantic pace to get the house ready for family. We weren’t supposed to host Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year but through a few unforeseen circumstances, the pressure is on to create that welcome home feeling for all.
As the primary caregiver for my Mom, some days can feel like they are more than I can handle and that seems to fit my routine lately but every morning before I get out of bed, I have to ask the Lord for an extra measure of grace for the day. I have to admit that today was not one of my finer days. I try, but sometimes I totally miss the mark. The verse that you quoted from Lamentations, “…His mercies begin afresh each morning” truly capture the essence of my day to day hope.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Love your up lifting post. Congrats on the upcoming arrival of new Grandbabies just love that God gives us these precious little one to have in our lives. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Sandy

Dear Ruthie,
Thanks for the great pictures of your fall in the Ozarks. While I am a true blue Northerner, I have had the pleasure of visiting the Ozarks a few times in my life and I think a bit of the grand ole South came back with me. My heart fancies some of your spirit and love of life.
As Thanksgiving is almost upon us, let each of us take a moment to thank the Lord for all that He has given us. Hope you and yours all have a wonderful, warm, colorful Thanksgiving Day.

Thanks Aunt Ruthie for all the kind words and comforting pictures. It brought my spirits up today… Being a nurse out of work and been looking for work with no luck for 6 months is hard to take! I have a degree and can’t find a job. How do people with no education get by? Anyway, your email was a comfort for me today. Happy Thanksgiving
Thank you Aunt Ruthie for a lovely post. Congratulations on your forthcoming addition to your delightful family. God Bless.
Megan

Loved your post, it spoke directly to my heart…….we are having a rough time financially and it’s so easy to get bogged down by worry. I know who holds my future, and I have faith HE only wants the best for me. Thanks for the reminder.
I am just reading this post. I am a teacher and have been on Thanksgiving Break…away from my email. I SO needed the words and scriptures in this post. I just wanted to let you know that your heartfelt effort was effective. I needed hope this morning and found it waiting for me at Sugar Pie Farmhouse! God bless and keep you and yours sister.
Wanted to let you know that Karlin Lane Antiques closed recently. Freshwater Church is remodeling that entire building. We have many other antique/flea market type stores here in Polk County though so come on up.
Loved your newest post ..so enjoyed the turning of the leaves ..your trip for your B-day and Summer’s beautiful confidence to Cheer .. I too like you was afraid to do anything like that in School .. I definitely was the shy one that didn’t come out of my cocoon to often.
I Love Pappys Antiques and Cakery .. Bought My Eastlake Bed and Dresser there for my B-Day in 2006 and hauled all the way back to CA with me I love it so much ..
You and your family are in my prayers and I know that God is true and faithful and will see you through whatever season in life you are going through .. I love to call our lives season’s because truly thats what they are .. the good time ..the hard times they are all seasons that pass and change and fall away and renew and refresh themselves day by day and month by month and year by year ..

Thank you for your words of encouragement. It’s want I need to hear today. Over three yrs ago my husband lost his job open and we prayed and trust God. For he is our provider and I am grateful for all He has seen us through. Your a blessings.
Vanessa
Hi, Ruthie
I didn’t proof what I wrote because I was crying when I wrote my first comment. I meant to say, after my husband lost his job, we prayed and trusted God. For we knew He is our provider and He loves and cares for us. We have much to be grateful to Him over these last three years. Thank you for sharing, because today I was going into the feeling sorry for myself because of Christmas. I knew I shouldn’t and I happen to click your blog and God Bless me through you. Grateful!
Vanessa
