Chalk Ink Markers Review
The Farm Chicks in the Kitchen Book talks about using chalkboards throughout your home, which reminded me of my secret chalkboard markers! Oh my, I love these liquid chalk markers! I discovered them at Starbucks one day…
I asked the gal behind the counter what they used to make their chalkboards so charming, vibrant and colorful….she pulled out one of these markers to show me….I could not wait to get me some! I found them on Amazon and since then I’ve had so much fun creating all kinds of messages to bless my home and family! I have chalkboards all over my house. I love to write fun quotes, scriptures, the menu for an event, love notes, welcome home and Holiday greetings. They wipe clean with water, or Windex. If the color is extra thick, you can sprinkle a little of Barkeepers Friend sink polish, and scrub the chalk off. You can blend the colors while they are wet and write on anything that is non-porous, such as plastic containers, mirrors, windows, and metal.
They come in a variety of colors. The Earthy Set of 8 Chalk Ink Markers includes these colors: Grape Jelly, Granny Bird Blue, Popcorn, Cayenne, Parker’s Dreamsicle, Teddy Bear, Green Tea, Spanish Tile.
The Classic set of 4 Chalk Ink Markers includes these colors: Chalk White, Clown Nose Red, Pacific Blue, and Smiley Face Yellow. Chalk Ink Markers are clear and bright and really make your chalkboard message something special, beautiful and fun. Gals, this is the chalkboard paint I use! It’s called Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Paint
It is so easy to apply onto an old cupboard door, or a vintage drawer to create an adorable surface to write loving messages to your family. As shown in the Farm Chicks book, Serena and Teri made farm-style chalkboards out of white enamel-ware pans! How cute is that!! I use a sponge brush to paint it on. You will want to give it two coats. It dries fast and the clean up is a breeze! This is such a darling home project, a fun and easy gift for a friend, and a great craft to sell!

Wanted to let Aunt Ruthie Sugar Pie and the rest of the Sisters to know about a cute find I found today. At our Michaels in the dollar bins they have the cutest paper cupcakes with shredded paper on top to look like sprinkles, red berry on top for the cherry! I got 4 but im going to have to go back for more. I put mine under my pastry pedastal lid with a white cake liner, soo cute!

I’ve always wondered how to get those vibrant chalkboard colors! I bought some old doors at our Habitat for Humanity Re-Store ( for $1) and chalk-boarded them up, but they just looked so ‘blah’ with regular chalk! Thanks so much for the tip, Ruthann! You’re a gem for sharing! I’ll be requesting Farm Chicks in the Kitchen at the library as soon at it is in circulation! And I do love your long swirly skirt from e-bay! So cute and feminine! Thanks for the idea about the Chalk Markers. I have an antique chalk board in my kitchen where my family makes notations of grocery items that they know are getting low. This not only helps me maintain my grocery inventory, it also promotes family & personal responsibility. (like taking the last of the English Muffins and not telling anyone!)

I love these ideas not only for chalk boards but also for bulletin boards -I help out teachers and your art work has given me so many ideas, I will use them for borders around my charts for parents to write comments on, we are encouraged to use lots of colors and creative borders, you have inspired me in more than a few ways, Thank You so much! I hadnt even noticed the Christmas sign was a headboard-OMG how creative!

I wanted more choices with the markers than they had at Amazon, though, so I googled them and found the chalkink.com site and they have lots more choices of packages PLUS they have videos on how to use them, just in case anyone is interested!

I just got these chalk ink markers and they don’t work at all. Am I doing something wrong? I purchased a framed chalkboard off of ETSY and I tried writing on it with these and you can’t see anything!! HELP!!!

Just discovered your site, when trying to find declutter inspiration. I just got a set of the chalk markers. Only the white shows up on my chalkboard. I love the look. The red, yellow, and blue do not show up,and are not vibrant like yours. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trying to watch your review of markers here and there is music playing, and therefore I can’t.
Do you use your Chalk Ink markers on the rust-oleum painted chalkboards? Because Chalk Ink clearly posts on their website not to use them on chalk painted items.
I bought another brand of chalk markers for my Rust-oleum painted refrigerator and the elbow grease I have to use to wipe off the ghosting left behind is unbelievable. I don’t want to use regular dust chalk.
So I’m curious to know if this specific brand of markers will work on the Rust-oleum chalk paint.
Also if it does work what are your methods to cleaning and does it come completely clean or will it always leave a ghosting behind?

I was told by a company that makes the liquid chalk markers that they cannot be erased from the paint on chalk boards. Is that true? They said that they are porous and that the markers only erase from non porous materials. Super curious!? Thanks!
