Christmas Time’s a Comin’!

Written by Aunt Ruthie on December 5th, 2018

IMG_5572Well Howdy Sugar Pie! In my little O town of Branson, Missouri Christmas festivities are in full swing! We have over 100 live music shows and all of them are singing the tunes of this most Wonderful Time of the Year! I’m almost ready to start shooting my Christmas Decor for my Home Tour and I can’t wait to share it with you! I’ve been happily decking the halls, hanging wreaths, adorning my mantles with twinkly lights and garlands, while sipping Eggnog and listening to a lot of Bing Crosby and Doris Day. My Nativity scene got center stage, it’s one of the things I look forward to the most when I’m decorating for Christmas. Baby Jesus in the manger represents the whole reason why we are celebrating! “Joy to the world The Lord is come!”

I’ve been able to watch a couple Hallmark Movies with my dear hubby but the other day I got a hankerin’ to watch one of the Walton’s Christmas Episodes! Ahhh! So down-home and cozy! I could almost smell the sweet aroma of Mama’s Applesauce Cake Baking in the oven of her hot cast iron stove! That was John-Boy’s favorite! It really warms my heart to see such family-love modeled along with welcoming hospitality, wholesomeness, good morals and family values. Watching it gave the feeling that all was right with the world. Oh, there were some squabbles here and there, as in any family, but at the end of the day all was forgiven and love was extended when they each bid each other an endearing “good night” as the stars twinkled in the night sky above the old, love-filled, cozy farmhouse.

Here is the Walton’s Christmas Album! My favorite song on it is Christmas Times a comin’!

IMG_1960-500x749Filling our homes with the simple joys of the season blesses our whole family and those who walk through our doors.  Good smells, happy sounds, twinkle lights, wholesome meals, sweet treats, warm hearths, and glowing candles… all of it is like a big ol hug to our hearts! You know I’m all about loving everything vintage, but I am so thankful for the modern advances in technology namely our computer! It sure makes my Christmas shopping a whole lot easier! Although it’s fun and exciting to get outside in the crisp, fresh air to browse in the shops here in town but I do have to say I’ve also been enjoying just being home and shopping online. Since I have 8 grandbabies now it sure is a lot easier to check off my list wearing my cozy slippers and sipping eggnog surrounded by Christmas goodness! Lol!

Merry & Bright!3

This year I put together a little Farmhouse Christmas shop over on Amazon. It’s filled with things that make joybells ring in my heart! Take a look-see just for the fun of it! I make a small commission if you purchase something at no added cost to you. Every little bit helps to keep my blog going! Here’s the link if you’d like to take a peek at a bunch of farmy goodness!

Well, I sure hope you are doing well! Be sure to make some time to take good care of yourself! Take 15 minutes to sit down with a cup of hot tea, relax and think happy thankful thoughts. Sending you a big ol hug from my house to yours! I’ll be back before ya know it!

God bless your darlin’ heart honey!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

grandmas pie2

Thanksgiving greetings Sugar Pie Sistas! In just days families and friends all across America will gather ’round the dinner table to celebrate the founding of our wonderful United States Of America by the Pilgrims over 380 years ago. The aromas of  each family’s hand-me-down recipes of roasted turkey, dressing or stuffing,  sweet potato casserole and pumpkin pie will be swirling through the air drawing everyone into the warmth of the kitchen for a peek of what will soon delight their taste buds. It’ll be  a time to catch up with loved ones, watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, cheer for a football team and snuggle by the fire to watch  Hallmark and home movies. And hopefully, amidst the flurry and joy of the festivities, each one will remember to thank the Giver of all good gifts, our wonderful Lord.

thanksgiving at grandmas

Thanksgiving can be hectic if you’re getting your house ready and bustling about in the kitchen orchestrating the cooking and baking not to mention the things on your mind that have caused you stress. It’s amazing how God’s Word can calm our heart. I love Psalm 94:19… “In the multitude of my anxious thoughts within me, Your comforts cheer and delight my soul!”Wow! I would venture to say that all of us have anxious thoughts…things we’re worried about…things that makes our heart hurt. But oh my darlin’s! God is here…and in the sweetest most endearing things His comforts cheer and delight our soul if we just look for them! Let’s open our eyes, smell with our nose, listen with our ears the blessings that God and placed all around us.  Let us be quick to thank Him!

Have you ever thought of the aroma of a Thanksgiving turkey roasting in the oven, or the warmth of a crackling fire or the familiar ticking of the clock at grandma’s house as one of God’s comforts that “cheer and delight our soul”?  Or the words spoken with excitement “Time to eat!”…hands held around the table and grace being said…that first bite of mom’s savory stuffing and then Auntie’s creamy pumpkin pie?  Comfort. Cheer. Delight.

Fall 2008 160

How about the basket of old family photos filled with faces you love and memories that make you smile. Or time spent with loved ones, good conversation shared over a hot cup of coffee and fresh baked cookies on a crisp blustery day, where  smiles and laughter warm and revive your heart?  Or cozy slippers… a cuddly hug from a child… Christmas music…  falling leaves twirling in a gust of wind as they fall from the sky. How about stopping to really take in the precious view of your family gathered around the dinner table…the smell of the furnace turning on to warm the house on early frosty mornings…these are God’s comforts to “cheer and delight your soul”. These are the things to be thankful for. Our God is so good!

So this Thanksgiving, let’s be mindful and thankful of the little things that warm and hug our hearts! Everything doesn’t have to be picture perfect…it’s being with our loved ones and savoring those moments that is most important!

Thanksgiving Day Song

Thanksgiving day has come, Light the fire, gold and cheery,

Let’s be glad of heart and merry, Thanking God for home.

It’s chill November weather, But the fire-light’s on the wall,

Home, dear home, is best of all, Let’s thank God together.

(From an old School Song Book 1945)
